Hi all,

I recently installed 2 EK 480 waterblocks on my 2 EVGA 480s, and I was going to use these fittings:

to connect everything together  (I have an E759, so the x16 slots are right next to each other, and I planned on going to tri and eventually quad sli with an E762)

However, when I was doing leak testing, I discovered the fittings were leaking! I then had a closer look at the fittings and they seemed to have a really short thread, while the EK blocks have a bit of a groove around the barb area :( As a result I guess the fittings don't screw in properly which causes them to leak.

Also, when installing them I accidentally pulled the 2 halves of the SLI fitting apart - the seal between them seems quite weak and now I'm really unsure about using these fittings at all. I wasn't even being rough with them or anything, I was trying to be as careful as I could. It sucks because I was recommended these fittings by one of the EVGA people in the 470/480 FTW thread.

Has anyone else had any similar issues with these Koolance fittings? I'd screwed the middle part as tight as I could and I also had each end screwed in tight as well... still no help :( Did I get the wrong size? I thought the single slot spacing one was the correct type for my setup.

Also, because I got water on the 480s, what's the best way to dry them off? Should I take off the waterblocks? I'm thinking of doing that to be sure because I really don't want them to short out or something :( Or could they be OK if I just leave them out in the open for a while? The EK blocks are a bit of a pain to install so I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove them again once I got them on :-\

Luckily I have 2 spare barbs so I can join the blocks with those... but it sucks to not be able to use the fittings.

I assume something like this would be suitable for the connections between cards when I go for tri/quad sli? If I can't get the Koolance fittings working that is...

Needless to say I'm pretty bummed about this whole problem. Leak testing the loop was the last step before I could fire up my system again :( Now I'm worried I'll short the video cards cause of water getting into them or something :-\

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

It's a shame, but it happens to the best man.  Don't get too bummed-out about it.  I know that's easier said than done because I been in your shoes before.

I hate to say it, but I would definitely take the blocks off the cards.  Make sure there is no liquid anywhere on the cards at all.  I use a blower (similar to canned air), that I use to blow dust out of the case, and lightly go over the pcb to ensure there is no liquid still trapped on the card.  Then, if you notice any spots that are soaked or wet, you must let them sit for a few days to ensure they are all dry.  I doubt that any problems will occur unless you let the liquid stay on the pcb for a long time.  Blow then air dry is my recommendation.  You can also set them next to a normal house fan for the few days while they dry.

After the few days and you are convinced that the cards are dry then reinstall the blocks and start the process all over again.  Good luck and keep your head up.  it's a pain, but not all is lost here.  I've had leaks, spills, and much more.  It happens, but it won't destroy anything unless you put power to it while it's wet.  No worries.

    Thanks for the suggestions :)

I took the blocks off the cards this morning and left the cards standing up so any water should evaporate during the day hopefully.

I'll give things a go again tonight, this time with barbs + tubing instead of the SLI connectors :-\

Hopefully the stubby barbs will be small enough to fit between cards... I can't use EK's SLI connector cause I want to go for 4-way SLI.
