Hi All, I have been stalking the EVGA forums for some time now trying to work out what it is I want to build for my gaming pc, without having to start another 'new build' thread. But I haven't gone as far as to ordering anything yet, so I hoping you can help me out. I want to use the computer for gaming but I also want to run Solidworks(CAD) and help out with Folding@Home, would love to water cool it down the track. So far my cart stands as this: Intel i7 930 - will upgrade if/when the cheaper 6cores come out later this year. Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3T1K3 - Just liked the look of it. Coolermaster HAF X - my heart is set on this case. EVGA GTX 460 1Gb SC EE x 1 - Waiting for newer/better cards then I'll SLI them. (GTX460 + GTX475/485) EVGA X58 Classified 4way EVGA SR-2 PSU 1200w For using Solidworks on the computer it is recommend/tested by Solidworks that I should use a Quadro FX card, but do Quadro FX cards work in harmony with 'normal' cards under SLI or should I just not bother with a Quadro FX card? I'm managing to run Solidworks 2008 on my MacPro that has a 7300GT. Above are just my n00bish thoughts and I'm quite happy for criticism. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well from what you have in your cart the EVGA SR2 PSU is way overkill. And also you can only SLI same version of cards. So you could SLI 2 GTX460's but you won't be able to SLI a GTX460 with a GTX475/485 when and if they come out. Also depending on how many cards you plan on running, the 4 way classified may be overkill as well.

seabigbear The only thing I would change is I would get a 480gtx & do sli with it I had Solidworks(CAD) & it work great on my old 260's so 480's should be np!!! +1, I am a design engineer and use AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks, etc. and I just put a GTX460 in my work rig and it works great. No need for Quadro unless you are doing some heavy design. Not worth the money IMHO. The SR2 Power supply is a little overkill also. Basically it looks like you are buying a bragging right machine. Don't get me wrong. I bought the Classified board as well but after using it for some time now, I realized I really didn't need that board. I could have went with a standard X58 or P55 board and been just as happy. I will recommend using the Corsair H50 for cooling though. Just put one on my Daughters EVGA 750i FTW Board and we love it.

here we go: Intel i7 930 - will upgrade if/when the cheaper 6cores come out later this year. Ok i like this one :) Kingston HyperX KHX1600C9D3T1K3 - Just liked the look of it. Not bad, also consider Gskill, Corsair and Mushkin Coolermaster HAF X - my heart is set on this case. I love that Case too EVGA GTX 460 1Gb SC EE x 1 - Waiting for newer/better cards then I'll SLI them. (GTX460 + GTX475/485 btw these cant be SLi) the 460 is a great card but need two of these to haave real power under the hood... a 470 would be a better choice if you´re planing SLi in the future EVGA X58 Classified 4way no no no... you´re looking for SLi riight? Not 3 way Sli nor 4 way SLi... The X58 Vanilla or the 760 Classy would be better EVGA SR-2 PSU 1200w.. only if you´re planing multiple high end GPUs, other than that not for you... Consider also PSUs from Corsair, Silverstone, Cooler Master etc between 800-1000 watts

Thanks everyone you have all been really helpful, I probably should have also pointed out I live in Australia so some parts are harder to get, I'm looking to buy from a online shop pccasegear because they are usually the best buy here. I'm looking to spend up to $AU3000 once I've SLI. I'll definitely look into the H50/H70 they look like a great idea. Just swapped the EVGA 1200w for a Coolermaster 1000w, just worried if down the track I have two hungry gfx cards 850w won't be enough.

From what ive seen solidworks is completely cpu bound ( tested by trying 2 diff comps with a quad and a dual and the quad was faster i may be wrong but you do not need a workstation level graphics card with solidworks my 9800gtx+ ran it fine.
