Hi. I have just started having some problems with my Evga 8800GTX SLI configuration (running on an Evga 680i SLI mobo). Until about a month ago, everything was fine..but then problems began. When I run any games in SLI mode, the games are unplayable. Constant screen flickering, distorted graphics, image problems, the works. When I disable the second video card, the same problems occur. I ran Driver Sweeper and reinstalled the latest Nvidia drivers (258.96), only to have the same problems. I'm getting Event Viewer errors about nvlddmkm ("Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered), and occasionally I'll get a popup in the systray about it as well.

I switched the cards around and the problem still persists in SLI mode. When I disable the second card (formerly the first card), I can run some games fine..for a little bit..then some form of flickering occurs, or Windows begins having problems in the background (disabling parts of the theme). I don't get the nvlddmkm systray popup anymore, but it's still recording Event Viewer entries.

What could the problem be? I have both my cards registered with Evga, and they've been awesome about replacing parts in the past, so I have lots of faith in them. What should my next step be?

What temps are you reaching under load? You can use furmark to place a constant heavy load on the GPU. Since you have had them out and swapped have you cleaned out dust form the heatsink. Have you tested each card indiidually as in only having one card in the system not just disabling SLI.

What is your PSU make model watts amperage and age?

If they are a few years old and temp is high reapplying TIM may help, but I am getting ahead of myself.

You need to test the card individually, not just by disabling SLI. Test each card and see which of the 2 gives artifacts. If both work fine individually try enabling SLI without the bridge connected.

Card 1: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered, in 2D windows mode (while loading the Star Trek Online launcher).

    Temp 53c @ Windows idle

Star Trek Online had flickers then locked up while on the character selection screen. Missing textures, geometry, etc. Screen would black out for a few seconds, then switch back. Game locked up, had to Alt+Tab back and kill it with Task Manager.

Starcraft 2 had screen flickers, would switch back to Windows with an nvlddmkm error (Taskbar theme would vanish, like turning Aero off). Then the game loaded. Game is very slow running, Prevision shows that the GPU usage is never above 32%. Lots of flickering, missing textures, geometry, etc. Game locked up, had to Alt+Tab back and kill with Task Manager.

Precision shows temps never rising about 55c.

    Card 0: Installed card.

    Temp 55c @ Windows idle

Star Trek Online ran just as it should. Precision showed GPU use and temps as they had been. Temps never ran above @ 64c while fully in use.

I'm assuming the problem Card 1, which I purchased from Evga on eBay a while back. It's registered, and I just checked my profile..and it only had a 90 day warranty, and those 90 days are long since gone. Do I have any options, or is it just time to chuck the card?

    Thanks for the support.

If you have no warranty and nothing to loose you could always bake it as a last resort.

While running Card 0 since last night, I have gotten a couple of "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered" while in 2D windows mode. (Card 0 has a lifetime warrenty). Still no problems running a game..yet.

Continuing my testing of Card 0 (lifetime warranty), while playing some games I get lots of studdering and shaking..checking Precision my GPU use never gets above 45%...I occasionally get a flicker in game, like I'm alt-tabbing from 3D to 2D..screen turns blank..then it returns. Checking Event Viewer I can see this happens occasionally (it happened twice within 6 seconds before), and is the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered" problem.

I also see an Error in Event Viewer..that says "The driver detected a controller error on .", and that's it. It's source is nvrd64 (event ID 11).

It looks like both my video cards might be a toast? Or is this an issue with my motherboard (an Evga 122-CK-NF68-A1, lifetime warranty, already replaced once)? Or both? Thanks for any assistance.
