I'm looking to upgrade my video card and I need help choosing one. I'm currently using a GeForce 7950 GX2. I have an Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.93 ghz processor and I'm using 8 gigs of DDR2 800 mhz ram. I will be upgrading to Windows 7 as well. Which card would you guys recommend? I know I don't have the best processor out there and I don't want to pay too much for a card that will just be bottlenecked. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Depends largely on 2 things.

1. What's your budget?

2. What res do you play at?

Also, make sure you have enough PSU to power it up.

Budget around $200-$300 maybe? I'm not sure yet.
I play at 1680x1050 res.

Excellent card price/perfomance wise. Should eat anything you throw at it 1680x1050.

The smaller version of it, is even cheaper.

You can also go for stronger alternatives. But this is a great card.

Whatever you do, make sure to go with EVGA for the great customer support, warranty, and after bought value =3.

Thanks for your suggestion. My processor won't hurt that high of a card though, will it?

It could use a bit of an overclock =P. But you shouldn't worry.

Nothing will hurt. You might just get less fps than if you had more clocks on your CPU.

"Big deal".

Alright thanks. You've been much help. The only two games I really play on PC are World of Warcraft and Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Battlefield runs absolutely terrible at the moment for me. World of Warcraft runs good. I just really want to be able to play in ultra mode with shadows and really nice lighting and such.

World of Warcraft really isn't much of a demanding game, especially on graphics.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2, benefits largely from having more cores. So a quad core would up your FPS a lot.

Well of crouse it may be your card but if it still runs like crap then it will be your CPU I had to upgrade from my amd 5000X2 BE to a AMD Phenom 2 X4.
I was running 15 fps and that with my GTX 260.

He has an Intel Core 2 EXTREME processor, not a very old AMD dual core.  He'll be fine.  Overclocking might help a little bit, no need to upgrade.

Definitely GTX460. All the latest current general DX11 and nVidia goodness in a nice small powerhouse of a card.

I think I've decided on upgrading my processor up to an Intel i7 930. And I'm getting the GTX 460 1g. I'm hoping I can run Bad Company 2 good with this.

You sure can ;)
You do know you will need a new mobo and ram right?
That puts you quite a bit out of your budget range. As a alternative, you could try to pick up a couple used 260's or similar.

Sorry for going back, but I've curious on what the OP has for a PSU. I'm a nutjob when it comes to quality PSUs and clean power for your expensive components.
