Hey everyone, I just finished installing my loop yesterday.  It is the first time I've every stepped into water cooling.  Prior to adding the loop I was using a Cooler master hyper n 520 cooler which limited me to 3.6ghz due to temps which reached about 84c under linx load.  With the same overclock settings with my new loop my full load temps are about 62c which seems high to me.

So you have a better idea of what my loop consists of here are the parts:

3/8 ID 5/8 OD tubing
Swiftech Apogee XT Ultra Extreme
Black Ice GT Stealth 360 Xflow rad
Swiftech MCP355 pump
3x Cooler Master R4 Series fans
AS5 TIM

I just tweaked my overclock to 4.0ghz at about 1.3 vcore which causes at 40c temp at rest ( 24c ambient temp) and about 90c on vreg(I have not installed the WC block there yet).  When under Linx load temps reach about 84c on core 2.  The lowest temp core is about 69c which leads me to believe the tim may not have spread correctly.  I have a tube of AC MX3 that arrived yesterday I was thinking about trying

I've seen several people that are able to reach 4ghz on air with temps lower than this.  I was expecting MUCH lower temps with this set up.

Do anyone have any idea why temps would be so high on a 4ghz OC?  Any input you guys can provide would be awesome.

Thanks a bunch

chances are you have poor contact with the chip and the water block, i would just pull the block off and take a look and see how well the thermal paste spread. and also make sure that their is equal pressure across the block and chip.

I agree with ajr, if you have massive temp diffs between cores you should probably pull the block off and check, and make sure you tighten all the screws properly so that the pressure is even.

    For comparison I have an
    apogee xt
    240 swiftech rad
    AS5 TIM
    2x gentle typhoon 1850rpm's
    Danger Den CPX-Pro pump
with 1/2 ID tubing and straight distilled water

All that in an HAF 922 on an i7 930 and i run at 3.5 (160blk with 22x multiplier) and my linx temps are about 62 on the highest core 58 on the lowest with 26 ambient

I'm new to watercooling as well, this is my first setup, but unless we both messed up the same way at least your initial temps don't look too out of line.  The big difference between the cores however does.

Right on thanks for the reply you guys.  I was leaning in the direction of uneven pressure because one of the screws that was attached to the block had bad threads.  So instead of waiting for an RMA I went and bought a bolt, nut and washed to use instead.

I'm have to add my mosfet block anyway so I'm going to tear it down tonight check out the TIM.  When I put it back together I'm going to be using AS MX3 instead of the AS5

good to hear that it was just a loose bolt, happened to one of my friends in the past with his swiftech block also. have heard good things about mx3 haven't used it myself and with the mx3 you wont have cure time either

I'm using Realtemp which has always worked great for me and as far as I know the temp readings are pretty reliable.

I stripped the loop down last night and it looks like there was a air bubble under the block.  What happened was I put the tim on and then realized one of the bolts on the black had bad threads so I took it back off.  I then went to the hardware store to get a bolt and put the black back on again without reapplying the tim.

When I was putting it back on another bolt had the threads let go so I had to use another one of the bolts I picked up.  I like the block but I'm really not happy with how bad the treads are.  I was a car mechanic for a long time and I'm really paranoid about cross threading bolts so I know there was no way I did that.

I contacted performance PC, where I got it from, and they refuse to deal with it and are pushing me right to swiftech.  That really bugs we because I run an ecommerce store and I NEVER do that for defective products.  I always make it right with the customer even if it means I have to go out of my way to do it.

But anyway that's enough of my rant.  I have everything put back together and leak testing right now.  I also added the mosfet block that I got in the mail yesterday.  Once I get it back up and running I'll let you guys know if the temps improve.

Thanks again for the input you guys.
