It’s a killer deal, says Tom’s Hardware who report on the Radeon RX 6800 non-XT price cut to $469.99. The cut-down Navi 21 GPU combined with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, was ‘the card’ to get just two years ago. Back then, the only issue was very limited availability as AMD and board partners were focusing their efforts on RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT models instead.

In 2023, gamers have a lot more options. The 12GB or even 16GB VRAM is nothing extraordinary in a modern GPU. However, the price/memory crown still belongs to Intel Arc A770 GPU with 16G memory. There is simply no other card featuring this much memory for just $350. The Radeon RX 6800 at $469.99 is a deal that falls in line with what is happening with the rest of the RDNA2 desktop lineup. Just yesterday, the flagship RX 6950XT GPU has dropped to just $609.99. This deal is still available.

Meanwhile, hours after the GeForce RTX 4070 launched, there is still no issue of availability. TechPowerUP reports that out of 19 listed models, 9 are still sold at MSRP directly by NVIDIA or through 3rd party sellers. Furthermore, the more expensive models are not necessarily much faster given the NVIDIA strict limit on manual overclocking of RTX 4070 GPU.

All things considered, it looks like the 2023 battle for the upper mid-range segment has finally begun, and the only allowed weapon is lower pricing.

Consumers will benefit from the lower pricing.

I agree that the customer will benefit the most from this war. Hopefully it also shifts the focus of future cards into not only great performance but also being able to provide it at a reasonable cost.

I guess the other thing to consider is that Last of Us Part I is free with AMD graphics cards right now. That is a nice bundled game to have included with a new graphics card. Sometimes with cards in this price range it's important to consider if a game is included with a brand since if you are going to buy the game anyway it's a great way to save money.
