i have the evga ftw 570, im trying to decide between a 5800x3d and a 5900x, or spending another 400 on a 7900x system upgrade. im more concerned about the 1 percent lows with the 5900x. i use a 3840x1600 screen. and also concerned about the 5800x3d being slower for applications. any advice would be helpful thanks

    I'd go 5800x3D if you're primarily gaming.

Pretty much what the comment above me says, you must decide if you want a multitask CPU or a gaming CPU. At the same time the former can be OC-ed, the latter not really.

hey thanks guys, ive been eye balling the 5800x3d but i need some productivity as well, all the bottleneck calculators say the 5900x would be fine at 4k, but its 360 when a 13700k is 419 lol and readinf thru a bunch of forums people go back and forth whether or not itll affect the performance bad or not at all

Well, I mean with a 13700k you'd need a platform upgrade so more cost. You already have the X570 ftw so the 5900X would be a drop in upgrade. You also play at a high resolution so you're basically going to be GPU limited between the high resolution and if you run games at a high-ultra settings. I play with a 5900X and a 7900XT on 1440p and get great performance that's pretty consistent, and im still primarily GPU limited. So, in your case, if you wanna save a little money go for the 5900X - you'll be fine. Just my 2¢.

Then i'd say it comes down to the level of productivity you want. If you are using it professionally next to gaming the the 5900X is the better choice, if you are just talking casual type stuff and you don't need down to seconds accurate time savings on tasks etc, the 5800X3D with its gaming focus and extremely attractive price would be the choice.
