HKEPC expects that the A620 motherboards would launch either with the Promontory 21 module, the same one already is used by B650/X670 series, or a new Promontory 22 chipset which is being mentioned for the first time. The second variant is to become available later, but it is said to offer the same specification as the original A620 chipset which is set to launch first. Both PROM21 and PROM22 chipsets are likely to offer the same capabilities, but the A620 being the most limited chipset from 600-series will not require such a complex design as higher-end boards. This means that AMD has a chance to remove unused functionality from the silicon completely with the updated chipset.
 
AMD A620 motherboards have already appeared in EEC filing this month, but thus far there is no information when would such models become available. These board would likely have limited support for the newer PCIe Gen5 standard and disabled overclocking features.
 
An introduction of cheaper A620 series could help AMD in fulfilling their promise of AM5 motherboard starting price of $125. The cheapest B650 motherboards currently available start at $160, which is still quite a lot. Furthermore, the AM5 platform requires DDR5 memory, which is indeed getting cheaper, but it is still a bigger investment than well-established AM4/DDR4 platform.
 
Getting the motherboard prices cheaper should attract more users in my personal opinion.
