I noticed something that I consider to be odd.  There may be a very good answer/reason for it, but I don't know what it would be, which is why I'm starting this thread.

So I play Fortnite [don't judge me, bro].  When I'm in a game, the GPU temp can go up to around 76C.  I know that wouldn't necessarily be considered high.

However, I also have Ghostwire Tokyo.....and while playing, the GPU is around 46C.  I would have figured that this game would be more graphically intense over Fortnite.

Anyone have any insight I may be over looking?

Thanks!

Settings, game engine and optimization can make a big difference in temps you see. Difficult to compare two games made by different developers on different engines.

I suppose that would certainly be the thing...what you said. But for me, it seems odd that an Unreal Engine game isn't as taxing on a GPU as Fortnite.  I am running the highest settings on both.  But I suppose that some coding in games allows a system to run it better than others.  The optimization thing you were saying.

As a side note, I am fairly new with Ghostwire Tokyo, but really like it. It can be a bit confusing as to what I should do, but it is a really nice looking game!

What is the GPU usage in each? What is the frame rate in each? Is the frame rate limited by a cap or sync in either?

It depends on if frame limits are used. A game that looks great but gets 60fps can be just as demanding on a GPU as running an older title that is running at 240fps.

I'm not sure about usage.  Frame rate is fixed at 60fps, because that's all my monitor can do.

Some games, like MMO's and RTS, are harder on the CPU and draw from it more than the gpu. Starcraft is a historically famous game for doing that and WoW was also till burning crusade was released, i believe, and they did some more work on the graphics.

So you have vsync enabled? Or a framerate limiter enabled? Cause if you don't, it will not be limited to your monitor's refresh rate, and can be significantly higher. I'm picturing Fortnite running at hundreds of frames per second without you realizing it.

So,.......sorry guys.  I'm a bit embarrassed.  I thought I had Fortnite capped at 60fps.....but when I went in, it was at "unlimited"...for some reason.  I moved it back to 60fps, and while playing, the GPU temp was in the upper 40C to 50C at the most.  So,....that was the problem all along.

Also, I do have vsync enabled.

Anyway, sorry for the trouble, guys.
