plus if it was a 485 it would probably be on a die shrink. causing lower temps . meaning less TDP. lol

Fake, its a real bad stretched out image done by some amature in photoshop. I do think a 485 and probably 495 will be in the works though and should be coming down the pipe a little later, but that is definitely not it.

    What are you talking about?

#1 - It is going to be a die-shrink most likely so it will run cooler so the stock clocks will be raised
    #2 - The 480 vanilla is already stock clocked @ 700mhz

Are you just trying to be funny?

Yeah, look at the GTX 280 and GTX 285 for example.  The GTX 280 has a 602 mhz core clock, while the GTX 285 has a 648 mhz core clock.  Also, I believe the GTX 480 actually has a 700.5 mhz core clock.

Doesnt matter what the core clock is going to be, still going to eat 5870's for breakfast.

If someone has a setup that allows the 480 to breathe, it will eat the 5870 for breakfast, lunch and dinner right now :)

lol you can clearly tell its a photoshop by the additional heat pipe, the chip would be 2x the size for the pipe to be over there

There will probably not be a die shrink for the GTX4xx cards. GF won't have its 28nm fab running until Q4 2010 and we probably won't see 28nm cards in retail until Q1 2011. Ditto for TSMC.

The refresh will probably consist of chips from a new revision (i.e. B1) so the TDP won't improve that much, unless the current sillicon is really quite bad.

atleast, that is some awesome photoshopping.

i wonder how the maker did add 2 extra "rows" on the metal plate at the front of the card.

doesnt really look photoshopped at all :P

Based on current rumors and my own guesses, next Fermi based chips are going to be launched in about a month, June or so:
    • GTX 460 or 465 (GF100 cut down to ~384SP estimated) $250-300.  If there is a GTX 490 or 495 in the works I'd expect it to be based off of 2 low VID versions of this chip at some point.
    • GTS 450 and below (GF104 based) with specs very similar to current GTX 200 cards, $150-$230.  This is rumored to be the "next 8800GT" that's going to bring DX11 features and good performance to the masses at price points $250 and below.
    • GT 410 and 420? (GF108 based) usual garbage low-end fare, like the GT220 and GT240 now.  Sub-$100 dregs with DX11 support.
Don't expect a 512SP GeForce part anytime in 2011, not that it would make that much of a difference in performance anyways.  If there is a 512SP part I'd expect it to be binned for the new Fermi-based Quadro part where the $3000+ price tag would justify the premium binning.

Right FunkTastic, doesn't look photo-shopped, not at all.  Metal rows 5 and 6 look nothing like rows 2 and 3, the far left heat pipe looks nothing like the one to its immediate right; the light source on the finish are completely different.

It was probably just created by a deviant fanboy trying to support nVidia.  Or someone making fun of nVidia ;]

Truth is, the 480 has all 512 CUDA cores as it is, I believe they're just disabled, I'm not sure if it's the manufacturing process can't produce quality enough yields or it couldn't meet the TDP, that they desired for the product, at the manufacturing process they're presently using.

    Right.

But having them and being able to use them are two totally different things.  Much speculation has gone into this subject and I am pretty sure that it is almost unanimously agreed that the disabled cores cannot be simply enabled through software modification.

It would be nice to see a new revision and hopefully with it we will see a 512SP version or at least a better TDP and higher core speeds.  Speculation aside, we just have to wait and see.

As it is now, I have not bought into Fermi and I don't plan to buy into it unless a new revision comes out which offers a product quite different than what is out now.
