As a "parting gift" to gamers, Indie Developer Rob "Squid" Hale has made his games free for everyone
Earlier this month, the indie game developer Rob Hale (Squid in a Box) died of cancer, and in an announcement on Steam's Forums for Waves 2, their partner CJ announced that Hale's games have been made available for free to all PC gamers on all platforms. Making these games free was part of Rob Hale's final wishes.

Hello, I am CJ, I am Squid’s (Rob’s) partner. I have an announcement, and quite honestly it’s one of the hardest announcements I think I will ever have to make. Rob passed away a fortnight ago as a result of complications from cancer after a prolonged and arduous stay in hospital. I would have liked to have made the announcement sooner, but I simply wasn’t composed enough to sit down and write something meaningful until now. By now you will have noticed that both Waves and Waves 2 are free to play across all platforms. This was something Rob was considering anyway within the past two months as their health entered into more substantial difficulties, so I hope this can be seen as a parting gift to all those out there that haven’t yet played either of these games.
 
Hale's first project, Waves, was released in 2011. The game is a twin-stick shooter that has a trance-beat soundtrack and found success when Steam was becoming a hot spot for indie game development in the early 2010s. Even now, the game is title that is worth playing, especially now that the game is available for free. 
Waves 2: Notorious is an early access title whose development was hampered by Hale's health issues. The game is now been made available for free and will remain preserved in its mid-development state. While the game will always remain incomplete, that has not stopped gamers from enjoying the game and giving it a "Very Positive" review rating on Steam. 
Both Waves and Waves 2 are now available for free on PC through Steam.
 
Playing Waves on high resolution monitors
Like most games from 2011, Waves lacks official support for high resolution displays that have a resolution beyond 2560x1600. Thankfully, the game does supports arbitrary resolutions if users choose to edit the game's UDKEngine.ini file. This will allow gamers to play Waves on 4K, 3440x1440, 8K or any other screen resolution that you desire. 
Below are instruction on how to manually set Waves' resolution on PC (instructions via PCGamingWiki)
1. - Go to \UDKGame\Config\
2. - Open UDKEngine.ini.
3. - Change the values after ResX= and ResY= to whatever you want and save the file.
4. - Now you have your desired resolution. Enjoy!
