Windows Installation

• Download the correct .zip file below for your motherboard:        

         121-AL-E699-KR - EVGA Z690 DARK K|NGP|N - v1.14

• First go into your BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
• Close all open programs.
• Go into the folder where you unzipped this package and double-click update.bat
• Press Y to start the flash process
• DO NOT TURN OFF POWER OR RESET DURING THE FLASH PROCESS
• After the flash is finished, the system will automatically shut down. Power on the system again and go into BIOS and adjust settings as needed.
• NOTE: If flash box immediately closes after flash attempt, the flash may need to be run from a CMD prompt with administrator privileges or DOS version.

  
BIOS Installation

• Extract the contents of .zip file to USB flash drive (must be formatted as FAT32)
• Reboot the machine and go into the system BIOS
• From the BIOS, navigate to the EXTRAS tab at the upper left and click on "BIOS Update"
• Select the .bin file you wish to flash.

Hi Lee. Thanks for working this. I can confirm that the memory slot error issue with CPU-Z has been fixed. However, the "fixes turbo ratio" part of version 1.14 does not seem to have made any impact. My 12900K is still seeing a max of 4.9 GHz for the P-cores and 3.7 GHz for the E-cores. As with 1.12, the cores will boost higher if I disable the C1 state in the BIOS. But oddly enough, I'm not seeing any core boost above 5.1 GHz with C1 disabled using 1.14, whereas at least two would boost to 5.2 GHz using 1.12 with C1 disabled.

Edit: I should note that I’m using a Z690 Classified.

A quick fix could be disabling cpu C states all together. Higher idle power draw but should fix the boosting problem.

C1 is the only C state with an option in the BIOS, and disabling it does allow the cores to boost. Although, C1 is usually on by default for most motherboards, so I’m not sure why having it on with the Classified inhibits stock functionality of a 12900K.

I installed 1.14 and also saw max boost of 4.9GHz on my 12900k at default settings. Also, I am currently trying to figure out if it's my cpu (as I'm getting regular 71 post code hangs), but I am crashing when trying to launch cpu-z when it gets to the spd loading step and also crashing in Intel xtu when it tries to read the V/F curve at default settings.

Ha! I’m not laughing at you but at the <insert expletive> show that is Z690 & DDR5. I’ve had crashes when loading CPU-Z or Aida64 when it attempts to read DDR5 memory, specifically SPD. Heck, even 3DMark has crashed on me when loading at the “Scanning SystemInfo” stage. I’ve experienced that across several Z690 motherboards including the Z690 Classified. Even EX1 crashes every time I click “Default.” I can’t say I’ve landed on POST code 71 though, only 7F and 04. 7F is from when I was troubleshooting my RAM when I thought yet another stick was dying, and attempted to troubleshoot by inserting a single stick into slot 1 before I read the manual. It states that slot 2 needs to be populated foremost. 04 is a bit of a mystery, as it’s only presented itself when trying to OC my 12900K and the system restarts after it crashes.

Unfortunately I found the next bug - as soon as you activate the OC for the memory (e.g. XMP1) we have the same situation as with BIOS 1.12 -  the CPU does not clock higher than 4900/3700 MHz. As soon as the memory set to AUTO you will get higher clock rates like 5200/3900 MHz.

Could you please check this?

Using 1.14, could you try XMP1 enabled, C1 disabled, and tell me what your core frequencies look like? I had to switch back over to 1.12 because with 1.14, I noticed that P-cores 0-2 boost up to 5.1, and the same goes for core 4. Core 3 is the only one that reached 5.2, and cores 5-7 never went above 5.0. All E-cores boosted to 3.9.

It’s seems like 1.14’s auto setting for the cores has a per-core OC setting for the P-cores, but still requires the C1 state to be disabled to reach it. For the time being, I’ll continue 1.12 with C1 disabled since that’s the only configuration that allows for my 12900K to run at its rated spec.

So, today when I booted I've had the "new CPU installed/found" and "VMD thingie" and I've gotten to the BiOS/UEFi pre-screen, on 1.14. The rest of my system is in my signature [pending]

I’ve come across that with 1.14, but just a handful of times. Now, I’m not terribly familiar with EVGA motherboards, as the Z690 Classified is my first. However, I do find it odd that rather than a simple message along the lines of, “the BIOS has been successfully updated,” being displayed after an update, I’m typically greeted with a “CMOS checksum error” message along with being told the CPU and memory has changed. The checksum error seems to only occur after an update, but the CPU has changed message has come up randomly when booting with 1.14.

v.1.14 fixed CPU-Z issue. so that's a plus. with wat ppl are posting, v1.15 should be a worth trying for me...  especially if my cores boost beyond 4.9GHz too.

BIOS has CPU at default settings. I just put a ticket in with EVGA to see if they have any ideas or suggestions and bought a g6900 to do some further testing with the classy to try and get some +/- data for CPU vs mobo. I don't know right at the moment if my CPU is failing or the motherboard is failing after hearing so many of you having about half the same problems I am. The only one I have that I can't find anybody else having is the POST code 71 issues.

Honestly, I think it’s DDR5 on the whole that causes a system to crash when attempting to read SPD using something like CPU-Z. A crash from that is something I’ve encounter across multiple motherboards and DIMMs. Sometimes CPU-Z, Aida64, etc., will load successfully, but it’s a crapshoot. I’ve been saying this whole time that upgrading to the X690 platform has been one of the worst headaches I’ve endured in my 25~ years of PC building.

If that was the only issue I had, I'd probably just not open those things. They're just easy to reproduce issues that happen literally every single time now. I can't overclock at all and it isn't even stable at stock settings. I don't want to completely derail this thread so I'll leave it there, but I agree that z690 has been incredibly frustrating so far.

From our MB team, they say that enabling XMP will disable C-State (also if you set a manual ratio) to improve stability.  If you don't need the OC, you can enable C-State with the XMP.
 
These configurations should work for default Turbo of 5.2GhZ (based on 12900):

1. C-State Enable + Enhanced C1 Enable
2. C-State Enable + Enhanced C1 Disable
