Hello, I've recently been looking to overclock my system to help my system run newer titles. I have an i7-3820 clocked in the bios to 4.625 ghz with a cpu multiplier of x44 and bclk at x1.05. However, I found out that CPU-Z says that my CPU is only at x43 and x1.05 with a clock speed of 4.49 ghz. My temps while playing games will sit between 60-70c and is water cooled. Is this a problem with throttling or other settings that I need to change? If there are any screenshots or additional information required that would help, I can provide them later.

Cpu-Z is reporting current speed. You will have to load the system to see the turbo speed. You may be where you set it in the bios. I wanted to see how on my system how the turbo changed under load and it was showing really low speeds. So I set the clock to 50X multiplier with XMP1 memory timings. CPU-z still showed 47X clock and not 50 even while running Intel Burn test in the background.

The following is quote OverclockersClub here under the 'Closer Look' section..It says: Another unique feature of the Core i7 3820 is that it is a partially-unlocked chip. What this means is a multiplier that is locked to a maximum of 43x, initially limiting the potential overclock to 4300 MHz while using the default 100 MHz bclock. So I think you've reached the max multiplier limit for that partially-unlocked CPU and any farther overclocking would need to be done through increasing the BCLK frequency.

Thanks for clearing that up! Wasn't aware that the CPU could only be partially overclocked despite the BIOs showing that I can set my CPU multiplier to 44. I now have a stable overclock of 4.6ghz with a 43 multiplier and 1.07 bclk.

Quick question Bob, using E-Leet I was able to see all 8 cores at set to turbo at 50X. The ring speed is set at 47X. When I load the system both E-Leet and CPU-z show the ring speed, not the cores, why is that?
