Morning All

I have a few challanges with a new build and hope some of you can help me out.

Bought the Z490 dark as the Z590 dark didnt exist yet but I was confident in EVGA that with minor drawbacks (and no PCIe 4.0 support) the board would run the i9 11900k with BIOS 2.01. I could only lay a hand on the GTX 3080 XC3 black gaming GPU due to lack of anything else currently and my unwillingness to spend close to 2000 bucks on a graphics card for the 3090 series.

PSU Corsair AX1200i
HDD Samsung 980 Pro 2tb PCIe M2
RAM 2x32 gigs of DDR4 Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3600Mhz
CPU cooler is the Corsair iCUE H100i elite (too small) capellix liquid CPU cooler.

Finally got the board as last piece yesterday, install was good until the board posted 00 on first start, no signal came through to the monitor and memory DIMM status indicators 1 & 2 indicated red.
Checks:
1. Cleared CMOS
2. Changed memory stick around as well as using older Dominator platinum sticks that worked well until yesterday
3. Re-seated CPU to make sure there was no mistake there
4. Unseated board and changed all power cables from PSU with new ones to MB and GPU
5. Used 2 dedicated 8 Pin power cables for GPU
6. Changed GPU to a GTX 780ti classified
8. Changed PSU to older Corsair 1200 gold certified PSU which definitly works

No changes. Also noticed that some of the fan headers have no power.

Anyone have a suggestion other than RMAing the board? I already ordered the Z590 dark and will get it in a few weeks but would be nice to maybe get this PC running for now with the Z490.

Thanks for your help.

You mentioned bios 2.01 but not if you actually used the usb update function to load that bios onto the board.  Is that the bios that you have on the board currently?

I had flashed the bios via USB drive to version 2.01 without CPU on first install, result was an E4 error code instead of the suggested error code C. Process took about 20 seconds total which makes me doubt there was a correct flash. Then the post got stuck on error code 00 and I tried other ways to fix the problem as per previous post below. On your suggestion I again unhooked all peripherals, took out the GPU and CPU, flashed again. Same error code E4. Then I put everything back in and tried again, error code 00. I tried another flash with everything installed => E4 => 00 and there I am stuck :(.

He who can read clearly has some sort of minor advantage: "Once the latest BIOS is placed in the root folder and renamed EVGAE499.bin, you are ready to proceed with the BIOS update." Installing windows now. Lets see how it goes from here. Thank you for your help so far. Will update once i got this figured out. E4 indeed. Stupid me.

11900K on Z490 Dark is absolutely terrible.

There is something wrong with the Evga 2.01 bios. I honestly feel like Evga didn’t test this bios. Why won’t they release a new or just a 2nd bios option for us?

I have a Z490 Dark Kingpin with an 11900K. Only Gear 2 works, there is a horrendous squealing interference sound that comes from the motherboard when you move the mouse. And my memory bandwidth is only around 30-32GBPS. My latency is also through the roof high!! The motherboard reports dual channel, and so does windows. But dual channel is not working right apparently. I also cannot get gear 1 to work at all. There is no user error about it. This is all Evga. All of these above listed problems are only with the 11900K, and bios 2.01.

^This bios 2.01 has the same issues when using prior 10th Gen Intel CPU’s too. However, this bios forces your 10850K to run at 3.6Ghz because the bios runs the cpu like an 8 core and 2 of 10 core will force 800Mhz.

Any other bios is just fine with 10th Gen.. But 11900K? It’s an expensive paper weight right now..

We have one option and that’s bios 2.01. Or bios 2.01. And if that doesn’t work, you can use bios 2.01!

The $600 dollar motherboard has been left out to dry for 11900K users or Intel Rocket Lake. I would love for someone to see the nightmare this motherboard causes when attempting to run a 11900K.

If you own a Z490 Dark and your considering a 11th gen cpu. Then just walk away! Go grab the Z590 Dark, or better yet just wait for 12900K!
