I was able to get a 3060 to replace my dying 1070 and I'm thinking of upgrading my monitor to a 1440 monitor. How does the 3060 handle 1440 and is it worth it?

I'm also interested in this, debating between 3060, 3070 or 3070ti. But honestly at this point I'd pay for a 3090 if one was available.

It really depends if you value frame rate or higher resolution. I'd say you should wait till you get a better card before getting a new monitor - the 3060 will likely fall short of AAA games like Cyberpunk and Control getting to 60 fps with RTX enabled. Those games should still be playable, but if you value high frame/refresh rate smoothness, the avoid 1440p. The 3060 Ti is what I'd look for as a starter level RTX 1440p card.

Honestly if I could have I would have gotten the 3070 or the 3080. I'd go with 3070 over the ti. I don't feel there's enough performance upgrade to warrant me spending the extra. If I'm able to get a 3080 I'm just got to sell my card at cost.
Thanks for the help. I haven't seen the 3060ti drop in awhile. I'm still trying for the better card but at this moment I'm fine with what I have

I really don't think the 3060 is going to handle 1440 with high resolution and frame rates. It's an entry level GPU in the 30 series. 1440 is pretty demanding on the processing power and VRAM so playing at that resolution plus an expectation of smooth frame rates would be asking a lot from it especially on AAA games that are notorious for being resource hungry like cyberpunk, warzone, etc. I would stick to 1080p and maintain your frame rates and then go from there. I'm sure there are some youtube videos out there that show the differences between the frame rates of the various 30 series cards. It would be a useful gauge to help you figure out whether it's worth your money to upgrade the monitor to 1440 or wait until you can get a stronger GPU. What is acceptable to you might not be to others, so the question is fairly vague. But do your homework on youtube and you can get an idea what to expect if you do upgrade. The 3060 is a good gpu, but it is limited in what it can do. If you bought a EVGA model, look at the step up program and you can see what options you might have.

True. I'll look around a find some comparisons to see if I like what I see. I still need to update my monitors anyways they have low refresh rates on them anyways. So even if I get a new one now I can always run it at a lower setting until I get the better card.

Depends on the game. I struggle at 1440p in Warzone with my 9900k @5.2ghz and 3080 FTW3 Ultra at 70-140fps depending on the location. This is with lowish settings.

Huh that seems low to me.

It does seem low for a 3080. From what I'm getting at it's going to depend on what games to determine how well it's going to look and that at minimum I'll need the 3060ti but I think I'll try and hunt down a 3080

I had a 3060 using a 10850 and it couldn't handle ultra settings on my 27" 1440P at 120Hz. Dipped well below 60 and stuttered. 3060ti, 3070, & 3080 queue weren't moving for months. I cancelled my 3080 step-up and got the 3080ti within a 2 weeks. Very pricey and overkill for 1440P, but I got a card quickly. If I had an opportunity without inflated pricing, I'd settle for a 3080 for 1440P. The 3080ti is gravy and no problems at 1440P ultra settings. It's a little slower than my 3090FTW3 and a lot slower than the KP. If ultra settings and/or competitive play, I would go 3080 over the 3060ti. The 3070/3070ti seems like deminishing returns compared to the 3080 at AIB MSRP.

Yeah good to know this. I guess I'll stick with 3080 or higher then.

yeah like others have said, the 3060 is ideal for high framerate 1080.
