you should upgrade to at minimum a 750. most guys will say even 850 is the floor. others will say 1000 is the smallest. but both evga and Nvidia say 750 for a 3090 (I have a 850 and never a problem)

You do need to upgrade. Since you will be buying a new PSU I'd highly recommend going bigger than you need. I'd suggest 1000W or more. That's not because you need that to run a 3090, you don't. I just don't see power requirements going down over the next several generations, so you might as well get a good PSU, many have a 10 year warranty, that will work in your next build and possibly the one after that.

Its better to have more then you need then just enough! RTX 3090 Kingpin with 1000w rebar vbios can pull over 800 w GPU then you tack on what the cpu and everything else your over 1000 w.

Let me add on to the comments here that you should be using 1000 watt power supply. I personally use above 1200 watt corsair units. Just remember just because a unit is rated at 1000 watts doesn't mean it will use 1000 watts. Power supplies only use that amount of power that you need, so if you are just using 65 watts to browse the internet it will only use that much. The price is higher because they use hte best quality components for the most part.

Minimum of 850 I would say. I run a EVGA 1300 G2. I've never had a single problem.

Since you are getting a new power supply, I would also go with 1000 or 1200 if possible. PSUs are usually priced in groupings of wattage if you research the costs. 750 to 850 watt PSUs usually msrp for around $150-$200 and 1,000 to 1200 watt PSUs are around $250-$350 MSRP. Highly recommend getting atleast a gold rated PSU or higher if possible. The actual minimum PSU you will need will depend on what your system needs now and what it might need in the next 5-7 years. Most high quality PSUs are designed around a 10 year use life so that's why I would plan for that amount of time if your funding allows. That would mean taking into account some possible upgrades you might have. If the rumors are true about the 4000 series GPUs, they will be power hungry so if you were planning on getting one when they come out I would strongly recommend getting no less than a 1,000 watt PSU with the 1200 watt unit the better option if funding allows. If you plan on skipping the 4000 series since you are getting a 3090, then even more so I would recommend the 1200 watt PSU since I really don't see power needs going down for GPUs in the future. I initially build my system around a 3070 so I went and got a gold rated 850 watt PSU thinking it would be enough. Once I started upgrading I realized I would want a larger PSU to power my PC, so I picked up a 1200 watt one for my upgrade. So basically because I didn't plan well initially, I spent $150 bucks on a 850 watt PSU that sits in my closet after being used for only around 5 months and I only use it now when I need it to cycle my open loop. Could have used that funds on other things if I had planned better.

I've got an 850W Gold, powering a 3090 XC3 Ultra Hybrid, and a power hungry 11900K, and have had no problems at all. Perhaps that would be pushing it with a FTW3.

I would get nothing less than 1000w with a Platinum or Titanium rating period.

I feel if you are getting a 3090 you should consider a good power supply. Probably 750W would be the floor to go for but personally I feel if you are upgrading and own a 3090 then I would go 1000W or more. A good power supply can last a couple upgrades so I think it’s always worth spending more.

3090 often peaks at 500w, so I would say 750w as minimum. Be sure to get a named brand PSU such as Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone, and etc.

I have been using a Corsair AX860 Platinum-rated power supply. Any 850W from any reputable PSU company will be more than sufficient. My PC never draws more than 600W at the wall gaming with my 3090FTW3 Ultra. While stress-tested maxed at 660. So any reputable 850W unit will be fine.

Good grief you are getting a power hungry $2000 gpu that can have huge spikes at times especially with overclocking so get a proper top of the line 1000 watt or better psu. Getting a new 750 watt would be beyond stupid and even 850 watt could be pushed pretty hard at times depending on the rest of your specs. Speaking of which no one even bothered to ask that simple question unless I missed it.
