Hi there.

Recently I got an 3080, however I noticed someting weird. Whenever the gpu fans speed reaches around 70% the fans start ramping down and up, and I am wondering is this a normal behavior of this card?

I noticed this occurs in heavy games. The constant temp is around 70 degrees (in the game I am testing), however going in to the menu it can go down to 43 degrees, and when I resume my game the ramping begins untill that temp is reached and then it stops.

According to HW monitor one of the fan goes up to 2200 RPM, when it should be around 1200.

I did an firmware update, used x1 and msi didn't help. Running latest drivers and my Bios is as well updated.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you

Are all fans working? and did it do the firmware update on 1.1.4 as well? Mine did and wasn’t doing this ramping thing before. I have set a custom curve and I’m running normal bios, must admit it’s got a heavier overclock now. because Evga said I could lol PX1‘a scan so now it’s plus +126 instead of the +85 it told me on 1.1.4 I can live with that

Yeah all fans are working according to PX1. Strange thing is that when the ramping actually happens there is no difference in RPM stats in PX1, however in HWmonitor it shows that, GPU fan 1 actually went 1k Above the other one (I m guessing that's the middle one, for some reason it doesn't show the third one). I did as well the firmware update on 1.1.4.
Did you manage to fix the ramping with your custom fan curves?

No didn’t have time with upgrading to that and doing portRoyal tests then finishing off cyberpunk. Like you I believe it’s this fan too, my card was running hot ie the temp Leds go into the red nothing to worry about but this is only because of the +126 overcloc, when I was on the +85 it was always in blue. Are you overclocked? Only way to get round this is to keep it cool from the start I think ie fans higher may turn 54temp to 70% all three fans think when a fan spins slower or faster than the rest it creates a hell of a lot of turbulence and that’s the sound issue its not uniformed

Nope I haven't OC the card. Is it possible in my case that the issue is coming from the lack of thermal paste, although I get good temps in 100% ultilizaiton around 70 degrees with 70% fan speed and around 65 with the aggresive curve. I wonder should I return it or wait for a potential fix, can't tell if this issue is from the gpu or something else.

Wow then not sure why yours is ramping up, I wouldnt return it as yours works you could get something a lot worst, sounds like paste try and reach out to Evga for the pads and put some noctua paste if you are comfortable, but what case is it in?

I am using Master Cooler 511 rgb, if I try to re - paste won't that void my warranty, also I have bought the card from a local retailer.

My fans were ramping up and down uncontrollably and regardless of fan curve at temperatures below 65c and at any game especially in wow. It was somewhat fixed by lowering the fps to 80 but then it started being uncontrollable again at loading screens etc. These ramp ups/downs led to eventual black screen crashes with the GPU going crazu and me needing to hard reboot the entire pc to regain contol and then all over again.

Long story short I had to RMA and the new card is NOT doing that EVER. The fan noise is not even comparable to the air blower sound of the fans that the first card did.

I would say try lower your nvidia drivers to 457,71 (it will say 457.38) and see if its related to an erroneous temperature reading of the card. However if it persists contact the support ASAP. In my case nothing helped I had to RMA in the end.

Edit: Forgot to mention that my GPU was passing the benchmarks but with excruciating noise I was pretty sure the GPU would explode it was just scary. Fan readings were at 6000 rpm or more at benches.

Me and my luck, lol. What software did u use to check the speeds of the fan?
