For Cpu the Arctic ii Liquid Cooler is second to none. It can be had for about $100 which is the price of the best Noctua cooler. It also has no proprietary software to bloat your system.

I might get some push back on this, but AiOs all the way. They are so cheap these days, if you don't want a flashy one. They cool much quieter than air in my experience. You probably won't need to replace until you do a fully new build. Their life is about 5-7 years.

I also stan the Noctua D15 if you don't want to buy an AIO. It's literally something you can throw in your machine and forget about, and does a fantastic job at cooling my 10850k. You could get even lower noise levels out of an AIO, but meh, my power supply makes more noise atm than my cpu cooler.

I picked the Deepcool Assassin III for my 3900x a year ago and it's been great so far. Both the Assassin III and The Nh-D15 should be among the best you can get for air cooling so if you're going down that route I recommend either of the two.

I just upgraded fans and it works fine for me... I wonder if liquid cooling or more advanced methods might not be necessary for most builds, though I'm fairly new to custom PCs.

i am not just pleased with my AIO CPU cooling solution ( see sig)! its a flop from cooler master!
i can reach 85ºC in hotter days ! ( LIKE TODAY 27ºC inside my house)
on the other hand my gpu is fine on air never reaches 70ºC
but this lame 120mm Cooler master AIO is not gonna cut it.. and my cpu voltages are ok now! thermal paste is ok... i cleaned the dust with compressed air...
some say 80 to 85C max is ok in hotter days... but beyond that might be worrying !
i just dunno what to do! im considering a corsair h80v2 or their new H60i.. but its 100 euros each here in Portugal!!
100€ for anew AIO loop is too much but... then again 350 euros for a new cpu like mine.. is even worse

no AC here. but you are right! a good decent AC is expensive... and the building management does not allow the usual external apparatus of the AC

i dunno what to do. and...sure its hotter! for it is summer! but its not acceptable that this 60€ maybe 70€ AIO does so little for my i7! the pump and cpu fan are on max always and still i reach worrying peaks above 80ºC the vcore is 1.19v maxthe vccio is 1.20v max using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut paste! and the fans + radiator are dust free after my compressed air cleaning..... and still nothing! funny thing is my 1080 Ti doesn't even reach 70ºC and its fine! but this AIO cooler? i simply don't get it! and i do not want to cough 100 euros for another new AIO that will simply gimme 3ºC less!!

80c for any CPU is just too hot. If reseating and redoing the TIM hasn't helped then you can take it off, open it up and see how corroded the CPU block is, clean it up and reattach it. Clean out the rad too but poor the fluid into something when you open it up so you can reuse it if it's ok. if its really nasty you'll have to decide what else to put in. Another option is to add a small res tp the loop and just make it a open loop. Of course there's always old faithful.... going back to a air cooler hs/f with push pull. The options are endless, but how much you want spend to fix the issue and what's going on inside the current unit would help make the decisions easier.

I can't speak for AIOs but if you're interested in trying air cooling you may wanna try and pick a cheap used NH-D15/Deepcool Assassin III/Dark Rock Pro 4/Corsair A500/Zalman CNPS20x. Any of those should be among the best you can get and should provide performance similar to a decent 240mm AIO. There's also the Scythe FUMA 2 which has got good reviews. 80-85c at 27c ambient is quite high imo. and 27c isn't even that high ambient temperature. Until you get this issue fixed you might wanna try undervolting and maybe not let the CPU boost as high. You could try ThrottleStop to tweak those.

i may return to AIR cooling indeed... i may just do that... its the last time i let a tech "sell me" a AIO instead of AIR cooling... sure is prettier and cleaner on the eyes but the performance is a no go.. my previous be quiet air cooling system was better then this garbage from cooler master

You know whats funny is that Coolermasters Hyper 212 was like 25 bux and could keep up with many of the higher end air coolers that were out there.It was a very good cooler. Def do your own research and dig. Take peoples opinions and make a note of them, but in the end have specific parameters you want to target and research them out till you find what will fill them for the best price.

Currently running an Alphacool 420mm "AIO" (it's actually a unit constructed from off-the-shelf water cooling parts that's expandable, it just looks like an AIO). Sitting at 40 degrees on the CPU at idle & about 80 under load.
But I have a monster case that can handle that kinda huge surface area (I can throw SEVERAL such rads in the machine if I wanted to expand).
COULD I get away with a nice, cheap air cooler?
Probably.
But in the long run, this is a cleaner, quieter solution for MY situation.

would love a 360mm AIO solution but where would i put the radiator? and the length of the hoses would have to be considerable to reach the cpu socket in the back
this awesome pc case was made for lots of fans back in 2009... and not AIO loops...
i dont even know if there is some "adaptation" i can try to fit a 360mm on the FRONT of my CM Stacker case... the air would have to come rushing out of the front of the case.. but i dont mind!
probably my next €€ will be a triple radiator just for the cpu... my gpu is fine!! really!
im gonna try to RE tim this thing and check the BIOS again.. maybe i forgot something!

would love a 360mm AIO solution but where would i put the radiator? and the length of the hoses would have to be considerable to reach the cpu socket in the back
this awesome pc case was made for lots of fans back in 2009... and not AIO loops...
i dont even know if there is some "adaptation" i can try to fit a 360mm on the FRONT of my CM Stacker case... the air would have to come rushing out of the front of the case.. but i dont mind!
probably my next €€ will be a triple radiator just for the cpu... my gpu is fine!! really!
im gonna try to RE tim this thing and check the BIOS again.. maybe i forgot something!
You mount them fittings-to-the-rear. With a bit of careful arrangement, you can actually loop the cables neatly.

My scythe fuma 2 is decent at cooling my 5800x, but I wish that I went for an AIO instead.

The Fuma 2 is a great cooler and people sing it's praises, but it's definitely in a lower category from the other big dual towers. Not sure why some of the reviews make it so it's comparable to the likes of NH-D15 or the Assassin III. At lower loads yes they'll both get the job done. But at higher loads the Fuma 2 starts to show it's limits.

The Corsair iCUE Elite Capellix 280mm AIO is what I use. Fantastic AIO.

I think I'm currently adequately cooling my CPU with My Hyper 212 EVO. My GPU was a bit toasty in this case but I actually removed the front panel acrylic sheet so the 3 fans in the front to improve airflow and my fan speed drop still a bit loud but more manageable I ended up using Velcro tape and some window screen mesh to act as a pre filter it seems to work but I'm sure I will have to dust more often. Not sure how toasty it will get when I upgrade to a 3080 or 6800XT.
