I think crypto is a valid reason enough for a gamer to have a second rig, "Damit, their using gpus again?"

My brother's a console gamer through and through. I tried giving him my older pc (so I could play games with him really lol) and he didn't want it. Good thing though, as I now have a backup gpu if my current one dies.

Can never complain about having the backup ready to go when things get bad on the main one. Recently had to do that and it saved me much sanity while waiting with RMA.

now we both have back-up cards / rigs, even though he thinks it's not needed (he will big time if his card goes down)
just till recently he was rocking a 4670k / 1060 6g w/ Win7 and would say no to upgrading anything because it was just fine to him, but some game he wanted to play was win10 only and now he has a 8700k / evga 2080s (i had  to sneak the 2080s in ... im not kidding)

Seriously. I had considered waiting until the RTX 30 series to make a fresh build, but built about 6 months earlier with discount parts just to have something while I waited. Glad I did, because the wait looks like it may be a long one.
