**topic cross-posed from EVGA reddit** Hey all, I've gotten my FTW3 Ultra and had it for the past weekend. The card runs like a dream, and cools extremely well, but there's been one side effect. During games with heavier loads, the entire PC ends up rebooting. Windows error logs actually have revealed next to no information. Fan curves act as normal and the card cools correctly. I've flashed my BIOS to the most recent patch, upgraded drivers, ensured the cooling system is working, and connected it to 3 separate PCIE cables. Other games run fine, but as it hits graphically intensive ones, the PC will reboot and behave normally afterwards. My 1080Ti SC2 from EVGA had all the same parts attached to it, and it ran without issue. My only ideas are to fully wipe the drivers and re-install, get a new power supply, replace the motherboard, or RMA the unit. I'm a bit at a loss.
PC specs: Lian-Li 011D-XL (am going watercooling as soon as blocks for the 3080 come out, hence the large case) Ryzen 7 3700X (stock clock @ 3.6Ghz) w/ Wraith cooler MSI MPG Gaming Edge Wifi X570 Corsair RM850X 80+ Gold (bought 3 months ago new) G.Skill TridentZ Neo 32GB 3600Mhz CL16 EVGA 3080FTW3 Ultra 10 LL120 Corsair fans with Commander Pro/2 Node Cores 500GB NVME M.2 Samsung 960 EVO 2TB Seagate FireCuda SSHD
Perhaps an 850W may not even be enough for this system? I can't imagine that being the case but perhaps with the peripherals I have plus the titanic power draw of the card it's possible. I also haven't tried undervolting the card yet either. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it! I'm debating on moving up to an 1000W PSU, but I've seen that the Corsair RMX series is supposed to be really good for the 3080s, unlike the GA/RM series of cards.

The RMX works fine with the 3000 series cards, confirmed by Corsair, been fully tested. Try and do a driver reinstall, use DDU. Also make sure your MB bios is updated to the latest one. And make sure Windows 10 is updated fully. If you are OCing your CPU go ahead and remove that to test. If nothing else works it's either a driver glitch or a bad card.

No CPU OC, it's at stock. BIOS is the latest one from MSI's site. W10 is fully updated.
I'll do a reinstall using DDU and see how it fares once I'm back from work. I'll be really bummed if it ends up being a card issue, since RMA is a separate stock.

Also remove PX1 if you are using that and download the vers for the RTX 3000 series.

Yep, currently have the 3000-series PX1. I'll see what I can manage after the driver wipe.

I had some issues with the PX1 vers 1.1.0.9 so I went back to 1.1.0.2 and they went away. Was getting black screens etc. I think that is a driver issue, so maybe once a new driver comes out...

Its your power draw. If no blue screen or anything it just shuts off you are over drawing and the PSU is trying to save your system. Try undervolting the card and see if it still happens.

Not with a 850W PSU it's not... And a high quality 850W PSU... One that has been fully confirmed to work.. And it's not shutting down, it's rebooting. If the PSU tripped he would have to flip the switch on the back. That's not the issue here. Now others have been shutting down, that a different problem... I fully tested the 3080 FTW3 Ultra on my other system with a Seasonic Prime Ultra Ti 750W and it had zero problems. So no it's not the PSU wattage in this case.

I do wonder though with all of my extra peripherals attached to SATA power if there is a much higher power draw thanks to that. I want to try an 1000W PSU and see if that works if all else fails. But this definitely doesn't seem like my PSU is overloaded since the computer reboots without any input from myself.

I think your issue is software. Or maybe even a bad card... If you don't have to reset the PSU then it's not tripping so that's not it in your case. That RMX 850 wouldn't trip until it hit 900W or more.

Wellp. got home. Ran OCCT for multiple stress tests under load. Reboot at ~380W. Lowered power target. Reboot again at 325W. It's safe to say that my PSU doesn't seem to be the cause based on those results alone. The card must be boosting to an unstable clock constantly out of the box.

I have a 750W Seasonic Focus Titanium that was having this issue. I seem to have fixed it for now by rearranging the cables at the PSU to the specifications of Seasonic, google "seasonic cable configuration" since I can't link here. Turns out that you can't just plug any PCI-E 8 pin into any PCI-E 8 pin. It wants certain slots filled first. That *seems* to have fixed my hard resets for now. I called EVGA tech support they said it's an issue of stability on the 12V rail. So do everything you can to stabilize it!

Likely a bad card.
I actually have an important update. I did some digging and found that the problem is likely my CPU's cooling. Under load, paired with the 3080 on a stress test, temps were hitting the dreaded 90C range and thermal throttling occurred. Reapplied a new thermal solution and brought it down. The next issue was my clock was stuck at 4.4Ghz thanks to MSI's terrible, terrible software for X570 boards, and the stock wraith cooler isn't a good cooling solution for that. I stress tested JUST the GPU's power draw and clock and 0 reboots occurred at max power draw and max boost clock. When I set my clock down to 3.6Ghz, it made it through the OCCT stress test with no issues. MSI's awful software OC'd my CPU without my knowing. That seemingly was the issue. Will test with a new motherboard over the weekend that ISNT MSI and my liquid cooling solution installed. But I can't say it's 100% the card at this point since if the CPU overheats like that, anything can happen.

jankerson Also there is another member in the other thread that just got a RMX 850 and it's working fine with his system.
Wellp. got home. Ran OCCT for multiple stress tests under load. Reboot at ~380W. Lowered power target. Reboot again at 325W. It's safe to say that my PSU doesn't seem to be the cause based on those results alone. The card must be boosting to an unstable clock constantly out of the box.
I was thinking there was more to it, had a feeling.... But it's hard to look at everything since we are not there looking at it. Yeah, let us know after you do the new MB.
