I was wondering what what are some of the best thermal pads for graphic card rams I can buy?
I'm supposed to place them between the heatsink and the exposed ram on the graphics card right?
Should I ever apply grease or thermal paste instead? What about copper heatsinks? I guess those would not be allowed if the heatsink gets in the way right?

If you are applying grease or thermal paste, it would be with the thermal pads as well, not by itself.
The pads that come on gpu’s are more than sufficient, but many people swear that fujiploy pads are better, although no one provides any testing to show actual change, they just say google it, without any definitive tests done on actual benchmarks and tested with thermosters.
If you are willing to pay a lot for no noticeable change over stock pads, grab the fujiploy 11 watt/mk pads. There are .5mm and 1mm thickness on different parts of the gpu, so you will need multiple sizes.

Thanks so much for your response, the_scarlet_one So I should also apply thermal paste or grease when I reapply the thermal pads on the graphics card? Or can I just use thermal pads alone?

Yes, Fujipoly are consider one of the "best" out there but their supposed performance doesn't really justify their cost. The 11W/mK pads are priced alright and then there are the 17W/mK pads which are even more. If you are looking for cheap thermal pads with around 3-3.5W/mK you can get the EK Thermal pads that are pre-cut for VRAM chips they are pretty great, they come in a bunch of sizes and thickness, I would recommend these. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/accessories/thermal-interface-materials/thermal-pads

You can apply thermal paste on the thermal pads themselves but its kind of messy and not necessary at all. I would only replace thermal pads when they are damaged.

Highly Not Recommend. Never use Thermal Paste on Thermal Pads.

the thermal grizzly pads work quite well and hold with out all the extra ooze that some pads leave, PPCS have them and ones from phobya which to be honest look and feel with the same specs as thermal grizzly for half the price. i have used them for a awhile over stock pads including ek ones and have no complaints, temps do seem more stable with them also. the fujipoly ones are crazy priced.

I'm replacing my GPU Thermal Pads with the Grizzly minus pad 8 which is 8 W/mK conductivity. My big question is the manufacturer used long strips that covered even the gaps between the chips. And in some area there were only two chips but the strip was long enough as if there were 4 chips. Did they do that to be lazy or do you think it actually provides more thermal transfer? I'm wondering if I should just cut squares that match the chips like I've seen on other boards.

The TIM ( Thermal Interface Material), whether it be pads or paste or whatever, only needs to go between the heat source and the cold plate. TIM outside of those areas does nothing..Who knows why they put one-piece, maybe to save on assembly time instead of cutting/placing each piece. It won't matter if you make a one-piece piece or cut-to-fit, but why waste material?
