I'm still running a Titan X(Pascal) with AiO cooler, and it's still a very very good GPU. I'm not jumping on the 2080Ti cards - for the money, it's just not that big an improvement for practical gaming use over what I have now, and ray tracing is still in its infancy. But... what is next from NVidia? Some refreshes with minor boost in clock speed? They've kind of already done that with the Ti and now the 'Super' models, so what's coming down the pike, and when? It seemed like a long wait for the 2080 Turing.. are we in for another long dry spell? I'm guessing a die shrink to 7nm, but still Turing but with higher clocks due to the 7nm die, maybe late 2020? There's Volta, but that's not a gaming card imo, and I think it will stay that way.

This is a very good question.
The way DC is headed along with Folding it seems to be an era maybe ending.

let Nvidia seat in the corner and let AMD and Intel take over with the new APU introduction.

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

my GPU buying history is something like GTX 260 core 216, GTX 285, GTX 480, GTX 580, GTX 680, GTX 780ti, GTX 980, GTX 980 ti, GTX 1080ti

this could be the longest time I've gone without a GPU since I started being interested in computer hardware, because yeah, I just wasn't quite impressed enough to pay what's needed to get the latest thing. I'm expecting the RTX 3080 (or whatever they call it) like that might be the next upgrade for me. I should be a bit more frugal with my money anyway.

But yeah, what would the next thing be? RTX 2080 ti? or will it be the gen after? just 7nm, or new architecture.

though if I'm waiting for a notable improvement in general performance over the 1080 ti for $700 or less... not sure when that'll appeal, next gen, or the gen after?

Nice collection you got there.  Still have them for collection keeps?

Nonetheless, it looks like Nvidia's next GPU will be the 7nm which should show substantial performance over the current Turing if things go according to plan.

NVIDIA has the RTX 2080ti and that card is still king and will be for a while. NVIDIA doesn't need to be in any hurry to put out a new gen video card. Personally in my opinion NVIDIA needs to work harder on making sure their partners have enough of the existing chips.

They only have to have better drivers then AMD can offer. It will be interesting when Intel releases a card since drivers is one thing they normally do a great job at.

As for NVIDIA and what is next it depends on when the 2080Ti starts to face a challenge. NVIDIA could release a new generation every year if they wanted to but the numbers wouldn't increase much by putting more time between releases each generation will show a bigger increase in speed. I am guessing that what we will eventually see is a 2070Ti with faster memory as well as faster memory added to the 2080 but it might be a year before that shows up then the year after we might be looking at the 3000 series but it's a total guess.

Im kind of curious to. Not really impressed with raytracing right now. I cant find any roadmaps that show anything

I was planning to wait for 21xx or 3xxx (whatever the next series is) next year after reading all the reports of coil whine, dying/artifacting cards, etc. in the 20xx series here.  If there's not going to be a new gen for that long then maybe that stuff has been worked out in the Super cards and I should look into getting a 2080 Super instead?  I would love a Ti but I think that's just a bit out of the price range, and I'm "only" going to be gaming at 1440p for the foreseeable future and a 2080 Super would be more than enough for a long while for that I think.  Just wish it had more RAM like the Ti series.

Even the 2070 Super is worth consideration if 1440p is what you plan to game on. For most everything it should allow you to maximize settings. It’s only when you look at ray tracing that the 2080 seems to really be needed for 1440p.

Yeah and I would plan to keep it for a while so the 2080 would probably be a better choice for me since I'm sure more things will come out with ray tracing. I'm thinking 2080 super hydro copper since I'm doing a loop for my CPU as well.
