Hello. I'm curious if anyone else has ever encountered this issue. Yesterday, my PC ran fine. Today, I started my PC and it kept hanging on startup. By hanging I mean everything kind of freezes including mouse cursor movement. At first, I thought it was a CPU or SSD issue, but booting into safe mode made the problem stop. That led me to wonder about the GPU, so I uninstalled the drivers with DDU. When I restarted, the problem was gone. Everything worked as it should. As soon as I re-installed the driver, which I've done at least 5 times with various recent driver versions now, the hanging started again. With NVIDIA drivers installed on the system, it hangs for 15-20 secs every 3 seconds. It hangs even longer if I attempt to open any programs. I've tried both of the card bios via the on-board toggle. Both have the problem. I've re-seated the card in the PCIe slot. I've re-seated the power cables on the card. Between yesterday and today I performed no driver updates, or Windows updates, so I'm fairly sure nothing like that is the cause. At a bit of a loss here. Card has worked fine for the almost two years I've had it. Any responses appreciated. Thanks. Specs: Ryzen 3600 1080ti FTW3 w/hybrid kit installed 16gb DDR4 EVGA 850G2 PSU

Have you tried an older driver set just encase?
Sounds crazy really.. wonder if it's some other program that is now conflicting with the card drivers.
You sure you didnt update or install anything new recently?
Can you open up px1 and see what clocks or temps its showing?
Control/alt/delete to see what's running to see if something is running in the background taking control of your gpu?
Wonder if it's like a virus.. something that is stealing your GPU to mine or something.

Thanks for responding. Yeah, I've tried a few older driver versions. I'm positive I didn't update anything as it was working just last night, and I'm fairly careful with what I do online so I'm doubtful it is a virus. When I c/a/d most of the time nothing happens because it's hanging, but if I catch it just right my screen goes black and I just have to restart. I only once was able to get Afterburner to open while the drivers were installed and it said the GPU clock was like 569mhz or something like that, and the temp was 22C. Without the drivers it doesn't show any information about the card.

System Restore can be your friend..Try going back to a time before the issue cropped up and see if it matters.

That's usually a last resort as it can cause alot of problems.
I'd say back everything up that important to prepare for a win os reinstall.
Also if you have a space drive.. you could try a quick windows install on it and see if it's fine after installing nvidia drivers.
If it's been over a year since reinstalling the os anyways.. then time not wasted. Fresh is usually best.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll try whatever I can to figure it out. The Windows install itself is only 2 months or so old - when I put in the Ryzen 3600. I’ll do some more to it later this afternoon when I have a chance and give an update.

This sounds like the GPU is not being properly detected at boot. This can either be a motherboard or a GPU issue. The likely culprit, since with no drivers the system doesn't hang, is the GPU.

Update. Before I started messing with my Windows installation, I decided to test the GPU in one of my other PCs. It actually worked fine. Then... I started to run a few benchmark tests, and I realized that the card isn't boosting at all. Like, not even to the advertised boost clock. So I decided to install Afterburner and see if I could manually boost the card clocks. AND... that's when the hanging up started on this other PC. I booted into Safe Mode, and uninstalled Afterburner. PC booted up fine again, but the card still won't boost passed default clock. BTW, Afterburner starts up with my other PC too, and I didn't think to disable it yesterday. So now I'm not sure whether to try anything else, or just RMA.

Crap.. was going to suggest trying it in another pc but most dont have 2 systems.
If.its strange in 2 different system and again started happening out of nowhere I'd say the cards prob toast. Rma time :/
