New board, power on, make some bios changes, save and reset. Remove power for a few minutes, power back on, "CMOS Checksum error" Bad CMOS battery already?

Sounds like it.
Check for corrosion on the battery/ battery slot too, and make sure that it is seated.

Seems we are seeing a lot of bad batteries this passed year on our Motherboards. But also move the Bios Switch to each of the 3 settings and return to setting 1. This will insure that the Bios switch is not in-between any of the positions.

To access the battery you have to remove the cover over the m.2 drives and the rest of the main shroud as the battery is between the bottom two PCIe slots = remove the board from the system as the screws for the main shroud are from the back

Took the battery out and measured voltage. 0.09v. Fairly dead I would say. Replaced with a fresh one. Hopefully does the trick. Will have to monitor to see if there is an excessive draw on it somewhere.

Who knows how long the time is between when they are made and when you receive your product - months, a year? Who knows Who's hands got greased to slip in a shipment of outdated product at half price... Mind you I am not blaming EVGA, just who knows where all the parts come fom

Yes :-) Replaced it and all is well. Glad there wasn't a larger problem (i.e. a sloppy solder joint or metallic contamination) with the battery holder. I think you're right. The simplest explanation is a poor batch of batteries. EVGA may want to consider a different vendor, or maybe a QA check on them.
