https://www.techradar.com/news/amd-zen-2-could-be-five-times-better-than-ryzen-2nd-generation-cpus AMD Zen 2 will supposedly feature a 13% increase in instructions per clock (IPC). This is impressive because it’s a nearly five-times increase in IPC compared to the 3% increase we saw from the first Ryzen processors to Ryzen 2nd Generation, i.e. Zen to Zen+ architecture. The title of the article is a little bit click baitish with the 5 times better claim, it's more like the improvement in IPC is 5 times more than the previous gen improvement.

Wonder if they will up the clock speeds also or will they overclock any better the the current Ryzen processors?

I'm not much of an OCer, so I hope they ship with most of the performance available at default settings.

I would agree that overclocking will be important to see. If they don't overclock well it's always a ding against a chip even if out of the box performance is great.

I personally would think its less important when that is such a small section of purchasers. Like laptops even among enthusiasts Dont care about OC. I love my Raven ridge laptop, but even at the local walmart there is like 20 different models, only one carrying raven ridge, AMD needs more design wins in this area more then anything else.

That is the most clickbait inducing title I've seen in a long time. I saw it earlier, and was disgusted that they continued to say it was five times better multiple times throughout the article. Someone very clearly doesn't do math very well, or has no idea how to write properly for the site.

It's like electronic fuel injection vs carburetors. Some guys lament that they can't fiddle with the jets to fine tune it for altitude and I'm glad it tunes itself as I drive so I dont have to fiddle with it.

That is some marketing fuqery with how people play with statistics in tech. Seems like a reasonable increase, yet it's made to sound groundbreaking. I'd be worried if they didn't improve ~15% in each iteration.

Hmmm.... as we get close to january I think we will get more info on this 7nm CPU. I would also like to see the OC abilities be improved or just higher clock rates, not that 4.3ghz is bad. I think out of the box 4.5 may be reasonable and 5 is just daydreaming.

If it does increase by 13% and these rumors are true, AMD will likely overtake Intel in terms of IPC. That will be a very, very interesting time for us. I think it'll be more interesting than the fact that AMD has managed to catch up with Intel in one redesign. One thing's for sure ... I'll be grabbing one of the 3700X(?) chips on launch.

Would be nice if they could make a cpu with 8 cores 5 ghz and 40+ pci-e lanes.
