Just bought a ev3a gtx1080.  I was going to use it with my i5 / gigabyte Z370p D3 mobo, but that BIOS (yes, the latest one) just doesn't recognize the gtx board, no matter what.
Anybody using a known good mobo that works well with the gtx1080? By that I mean auto detects the presence of the GTX and uses it instead of onboard graphics?  I looked at the ev3a z370 specs, but I am not sure my CM Hyper212 cpu heatsink will fit over some of the stuff on that mobo.  I have do a fairly large case.

Most all motherboards should auto-detect that a PCIe graphics card is installed and auto-switch to using it..You can try going into the BIOS in the Chipset section and setting 'Internal Graphics' (Onboard/iGPU) from Auto to Disabled.

There's also 'Initial Display Output' in the Perhiperals section you can set to use the specific PCIe slot that your card is in.

That's all I can tell you to try other than maybe contact Gigabyte support and ask them what's up if you still have problems.

    Yep, I did, no joy.

Their support is email only, and the "workaround" they offer doesn't work.  Others on their forums also complain.

I've given up on the Gigabyte board, which is now packed up to be returned, and I am trying to figure out what else to buy.  That is why I was asking for mobos that folks here are using that are known to work as intended with the evga gtx1080.  I presume the evga mobo works well with it, but I am not sure about my cpu heatsink clearance on it.

You could email evga customer service and ask about the clearances with your cooler.  They're pretty good about getting back with you.

Like bob16314 mentioned above, any Z370 board should recognize you card since the Z370 technology is newer than the the 1080. To answer you question directly.... Compare the EVGA and ASUS boards that meet your requirements (x-fi, bluetooth, sound, OC'ing, etc.) and choose from them.

Do you have a second computer to try the card in, just in case you got a DOA card.  You never know!

The card should have been detected by the motherboard automatically as there is a chance the card is just not posting. Do you have access to test the card on another system ? This would be best before spending money on another motherboard.

Yep, the card was recognized in another computer.  I have ordered an ASUS mobo - we'll see how that goes.

Just wanted to close this one out by saying the ASUS mobo recognized the EVGA card first try, I didn't have to disable the on board graphics, and everything is working just like I thought it should have!  Plenty of room for my CM Hyper212 heatsink and the GTX card.  I waited way too long to dump the Gigabyte board, thinking it was something I was doing wrong.
    Thanks to those who responded.
