Microsoft just announced at the NVIDIA GDC a new extension to the Direct X API. NVIDIA feels its Volta graphics can handle it. In fact this extension can't work on NVIDIA's Pascal. NVIDIA also announced the NVIDIA GameWorks SDK will add a ray-tracing denoiser module. This suite of tools and resources for developers will dramatically increase realism and shorten product cycles in titles developed using the new Microsoft DXR API and NVIDIA RTX. In a nutshell you can say that this will improve lighting, reflection. and shadows.

Perhaps you're referencing information from somewhere else, but in the article it says that Pascal can run DXR although it will run much better on Volta. RTX is what will only work on Volta.

More invasive GameWorks nonsense from Nividia. Nvidia truly does not play well with others.

DX12 being a major bomb and even the developers paid by AMD to utilize it have failed massively. Perhaps in a decade this tech will be ready for legit use.
