I was wondering if it is true the EVGA GTX 1070 Black Edition has no backplate ?
Seems a bid strange to me, because is is some kinda "special edition" ... right ?
Maybe someone who has got one can make this clear or why this model doesn't come with a backplate. (EVGA ?)

My buddy bought a GTX 1070 Black Edition from newegg and it came without a backplate.
My GTX 1080 FTW from the EVGA website has a backplate.

@ Carbonshape. On the EVGA products page under GTX 1070 you have 2 Black Edition cards. Links do no work as they are not posted here ....

yeah well, have too skip this one than. I want a backplate on the card. but i like the "Black Edition" very much.

Thank you for asking. This card is intended as a model that offers all the performance of the somewhat higher-end SC card but with a lower price and a cooler that has fewer frills or a back plate. These cards overall tend to have very low temperatures and are one of the least expensive options on the market to get a factory overclocked 1070 with a dual fan cooler.

Thank you very much for the explanation !! that is very clear, and makes perfect sense now to me. I will go with the "normal" card than. Just loved the black edition to fit my build. There are many others on the market, i know, but this time i want a EVGA card

For a multi-card build that does not use risers, a back plate is a BAD thing, as it restricts space for airflow to the next card and can contribute to overheating issues.
Not an issue for water-cooled GPUs, and usually not an issue for single-card builds.
Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding. I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.
