I was looking and thinking of going from 1080 sli to just one 1080 ti.  If you changed did you like it and was the performance close?  As most games don't utilize sli and having just one card running heating up the case seems better.  I would get the 1080 ti hybrid since the 1080 sli gaming gets 82c would like less noise and cooler running card.  as long as my fps don't take a hit.  And removing 1 card would let me put some heatsinks on my m.2

Thanks

Well you will lose performance but it depends on what games you play and what you consider "acceptable". What monitor(s) are you using?

Thanks for the reply.  I'm using a acer xb270hu gsync and I'm thinking the 960 is getting hot as the sli card covers it.

LOL really?  Heatsinks on your 960?  I've got a pair of 960s and temps never even come remotely close to being an issue and my PC is the garden variety when it comes to cooling.

How hot is your case getting?

I had 980 Ti KP's in SLI and changed to a single 1080 Ti FE. Game performance is about the same but benchmark scores are about 1000 points lower.

The Samsung 960 Pro m.2 now have Heat Sinks you can add on to them if needed.
Also "The 960s have a copper slip in the label that helps wick away heat, all you really need is to move some air over it.  A cheap slot cooler would work if you're using a PCIe slot adapter" I would just put a 60mm Fan above it.
As far as SLI difference here are my scores between mine. 2 GTX 1080 compared to 1 GTX 1080 Ti One Intel CPU One AMD CPU.

I would say Stay With your Current NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI Setup.

For games that supported SLI well you will loose a good chunk of performance. As for games that didn't support or badly supported SLI you will have better performance. - Google "1080 SLI vs Titan X Pascal" as the results for that should be similar.

Also the 1080 Ti has more VRAM, non-gimped floating point, will use less power (compared to 2 cards) and should have less microstutter than SLI cards.

If you do switch, consider a Hybrid 1080 Ti as you won't have to deal with any heat being dumped into your case.

    ---

Performance is more consistent when the 960 is kept cool. Anandtech should have the temperature tests in their review.

BTW higher temps cause NAND cells to loose charge faster. Whether that is a issue for a powered-on drive is not something I've looked into. But for cold storage (i.e. off) at 70c most drives are only rated to maintain stored data for a year.

Edit: "The Aqua Computer kryoM.2 micro" is a really nice M.2 heatsink that works with Samsung drives nicely as they are mostly single sided.
