Thanks for posting Kram, I just didn't have the energy to start a thread on it here this year and possibly have to deal with trolls. A special mention to the 40 people from my work who died that morning. It amazes me that there are now kids almost old enough to attend university who weren't even born back then. To me, it still feels like yesterday. I think it always will.

Nereus, it was a horrible day and it does still feel like yesterday to me also. 40 colleagues killed, wow.

Where was everyone when they got the news? I was sitting at a little neighborhood bar/restaurant in Kitanakagusuku, Okinawa, Japan. They had the TV on and it was showing the impacts. Of course it was all in Japanese, so I asked the bar owner what movie it was. When he said it was the news, I dropped my fork and ran out to get to my TV at home (which was literally 50yds down the street). Had to come back the next day to pay my bill. Getting on base the next day was an interesting experience. I had (and still have) a full beard and the 18 y/o marine with the pump 12 gauge at the gate who's job it was to guard me while my vehicle was getting searched was playing no games that morning. They had 50 cals on tripods pointing down the entrance road to the base.

9-11-18 was hectic. Lots of rockets fired at this base and lots of changes in plans and schedule delays. HaywireHaywood Where was everyone when they got the news?
I was driving to school when the news alert broke on the radio.

I will remember 9/11 as the day I asked Vile Rat if he was playing a game like Splinter Cell or Rainbow 6 he told me it was real life and he was in Libya. He was under attack in Benghazi and got online to tell us he was pinned down with the ambassador and wasn't going to be making it out.

The mortar shell and t-wall are "In loving memory..." of a couple people who died from a rocket in the building I sleep. 9/11 wasn't just a date in 2001. On 9/11/18, we were on short final to land when all of the sudden the incoming alarm sounded, we were instructed to divert, and a rocket landed in front of us originating from behind us. We must have been, at most, hundreds of feet from taking a rocket up our butt. None of the C-RAMs opened fire on the rocket, which is another scary indicator of how close we must have been; since the C-RAMs should not open fire on a friendly.
