Hi all,

After only a few weeks, but what has felt like an eternity, yesterday, both my thermal pads and RMA arrived! I assume everyone in the UK is now getting the pads as there were some threads about it yesterday.

Anyway, at odds with the experience user 'Hapkiman' had regarding being sent a non functional second hand card, I can confirm a brand new 1070 FTW was sent to me yesterday!

Great going EVGA, keep this up and restore faith to people that they are getting BNIB RMAs to replace their brand new cards.

The card had the update to BIOS (72) and thermal pad mod. It runs about 10°C cooler than my first one, which means where I was at 77°C in one game at 66% fan ~2100rpm (typhoon sound levels, just check the toms hardware reviews) I am now at 67°C which is approx. 40% fan and ~1300rpm (this is left as standard in the BIOS mod)

Sound level differences are night and day, lower load temps mean rather than stuck at 1898mhz I now see up to 1950mhz, temp dependent of course. Its not heating up my H100i so the fan speeds on that have dropped, everything is like it was with my old reference 980!

Great news. VRAM looked to be in contact with the pads, thermal mod VRM pads were thick enough you could see an ever so slight bulge between midplate, pcb and backplate so know good contact being made there.

oh, and it idles at 28°C (20°C ambient)

Gah, I wish I RMA'ed mine now instead of applying the thermal pads myself. I didn't like the idea of getting a refurbished card considering I've only owned mine for approximately ~2 months.

I am pretty sure I know the answer, but have to ask out of curiosity. Does the new card have Samsung or Micron memory?

You can do an advanced RMA for the BIOS I believe so, maybe do that?

I may actually do that, because this card has been more unstable than my previous AMD card. From random blue screens (DPC_Watchdog) to complete system lockups for no apparent reason.

I also got mine mid-September. With the advanced RMA, I assume you received the new card first. Did you send your old one back in its retail packaging? How long did it take to arrive?

yes, go for it, the offer is there in black and white, you'll need to keep talking at support that it is there for them to approve the RMA. We're spending at least £450 on cards that should be absolute top tier, make them well aware you'll only accept BNIB as we originally paid out to own

Yep, you essentially buy a card from EVGA, then send back your old one once you're happy with the new one and get refunded the amount EVGA charged. My EAR was accepted on 4th Nov and arrived yesterday 16th Nov.

PACKAGING1. EVGA requires that you send only the product and NO ACCESSORIES. Do not include Cables, CDs/Games, and Manuals.2. Motherboards may have contained an optional clip-on chipset fan which required installation by the user. If so, DO NOT send EVGA this optional motherboard chipset fan. Accessories sent to EVGA will NOT be returned. 3. To protect your product and warranty from shipping damage, you will need to use cushioning material (foam, bubble wrap) and a rigid container such as a cardboard box. EVGA includes anti-static bags and plastic clamshells at point-of-sale with many products which are ideal to use for warranty replacement shipping. Damage caused during transit may invalidate your warranty.

I haven't got my one off to EVGA yet as I'm having a dispute about the shipping costs, I was hoping to keep the box for resale seeing as I had to sell my 980 in the original.
