I got one yesterday for the GTX 980.  I have two 980SC's.  Tried searching but only found info on the 970 lawsuit.  (Big deal!  The consumer gets $30 and the lawyers get millions!).

Never had any problems with my cards and haven't heard of any lawsuit before.  It's got to be a mistake by Newegg.  That's who the email was supposedly from.  Wondering if it's some kind of scam.

i'll still take that 30 bucks if they give it to me    - I think newegg goofed  all around   folks with AMD cards are getting that notice on there cards as well  from them

maybe e-mail spam or  open it and get a malware thing   seeing how any one with any brand card is getting them ??

There are no issues with the 980s, let alone the 970s. Newegg is just filled with incompetence.

Did you guys go through the email header info and see where it was coming from? Its most likely phishing attempts, playing on the gtx970 legit news, because if there was really something going on with the other cards it would be all over the news outlets before a newegg email.

it does appear to have come from info@newegg.com there's another topics about it as well: http://forums.evga.com/Newegg-sent-me-this-m2524150.aspx

maybe one other, but the point is, if it's a phishing attempt it's gotten fairly good coverage, also it used my real name, which a phishing attempt would er.. be slightly less likely to use I guess (I know it's not that hard to obtain info like that, it's just that most of the stuff I get doesn't bother with it)

That and newegg had an article that said that the 980 was connected to the 970 settlement(as well as the 980 ti, and 960, article is now down). I think someone at newegg just messed up big time rather than a phishing attempt this time

    I didn't purchase a 980 but I did get 3x 970s. Wouldn't mind getting some $ back for those

There is indeed a class action.

TL:DR Technically the 970 / 980 cards have 512MB less Vram then advertised.
The published documents and stories refer to only the GTX 970.
However myself and a buddy of mine have GTX 980(s) have gotten an email from Amazon/Nvidia regarding a $30 refund.

Well, that is indeed wrong. The 980s do not have 512mb less VRAM, nor do the 970s. The 970s, though, have a slower 512mb, yes, but it doesn't have 512mb less than. Even mentioning this whole topic feels like time wasted, because everybody should know by now.

An error message was already sent out about the 960, 980, and 980ti. The only card affected is the 970, and it isn't 512mb less, it is 512mb that runs slower. Noone is getting anything for the 960, 980, or 980ti. That was an error, as has been addressed by the companies that sent the message in error.
