Hi.

I've had my two EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+s since June and they've been working great. Since yesterday however I've been hearing a really annoying rattling sound that seems to be coming from the back of one of the cards. The sound is not loud but it is distinct and you can hear it even when the fans are ramping up. It begins as soon as the fans start spinning, so even at low RPMs, and doesn't go away the higher the RPM.

My cards are both running fine performance and temperature-wise with the lower card running 10 degrees lower as expected. Tonight I'm going to take out each card and find out which one it is that's making the noise.

Before anyone asks I have made sure the noise is not coming from any other component. It's definitely one of the cards. I registered both cards with EVGA when I bought them but before potentially RMAing I wanted to get some advice on how to potentially fix this. I'll give an update when I do some testing shortly.

I have the same issue with the same card. I found that pushing on the fin that is accessed through the holes on the port side of the card it stops this. Use a cotton swab or something non conductive and press down firmly but not too firm and it stops. At least for me. I have found no permanent fix and stopped thinking about it as the card cools and works fine otherwise.

    Hello,

I am sorry that you are experiencing an issue with your graphics card. Does the sound increase in speed as the fan's rmp increases?

Thanks for the response. Yes it does exactly that. The rattling becomes faster as the RPM goes up.

I used a screwdriver to apply small but firm pressure and it made no difference. Although I might need to put more pressure on it with something safer.

This may likely be a loose heatsink fin that is rattling/shaking when more air is pushed through. Once you determine which card it is please contact our support team so we can assist you with a replacement.

Ok I've tested each card on its own twice and as I thought it was the second card. The heatsink is visibly lower than then first card on the left most side (where the rear of the computer would be).

It seems to be much less pronounced than when I have two cards running though, and in general it seems temperamental too. Yesterday for example, the rattling was really loud but today not so much.

Anyway I'll get into contact with support. I suppose one good thing is that the second card's LED lighting was always really dim compared to the first card. In fact at 100% brightness it was only as bright as my first card at 40%. Still the ASICs were both similar in the low 70s so my cards boosted to around 1300mhz in game which was nice. Oh well.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
