Good day! I recently bought a GTX 970 from a friend. He bought it on release to use in a new rig, but he never built it. The card stayed boxed for about a year until two days ago when I got it. I'm really happy with the performance, but the firmware seems old. The card got ACX2.0 cooler, but the fans keep spinning at 31% idle, and I can't get it any lower in Precision, making zero-rpm mode a myth. Then I read that zero-rpm got introduced in Firmware 1.1, but the download is no longer available. Help? Btw the part number is 04G-P4-2972-KR and current BIOS is 84.04.1F.00.70

Hi Zamzo, There isn't a firmware update for this video card that would fix the fan speed. Try re-installing precision X and leave the fans on auto. If you keep having the same issue, try moving the video card to another pcie slot or possibly testing it on a different system.

Please keep in mind, that is not an authorized EVGA website; the registrant is in Turkey. There is a chance downloads from that location can contain malware or other problems.

I did of course scan it first and it came out clean. No problems yet, fingers crossed. When EVGA removes the download from their site, you got to look at other sites. Too me it's really, really bad customer support to remove the update because "This firmware has already been pre-applied to all GTX 970's for 8+ months, and is no longer available for download." What the hell? So if a store still have some first edition cards and sell them, the buyer can't update from EVGA's site?! MSI still offer their firmware update, why can't EVGA? A rocky start for my first EVGA product, not impressed...

While true, the links there go directly to the official EVGA downloads on EVGA's site, not a third party source. I checked. For example, the download link for the BIOS for his GPU is http://cdn.evga.com/970/2972_v11.zipEven though the links might be removed from the EVGA website, most times the original download location(s) remain intact even for older products. As always, BIOS updates need to be researched carefully as product revisions can make the use of them problematic.
