my mother board is stock Gateway DX4870-UB20P
with upgraded CPU Intel i7 2600 quad core.
my normal card is GTX 560

I've noticed when I plug the GTX 960
with power, and proper connection.
the resolution is changed, to about half the screen
and the only thing visible is the gateway logo, f12 and DEL not working
and starts to beep, eventually  turns black with flashing underscore in the top left corner.
thanks with for any help

Plug the GTX 560 back in and make sure your motherboards BIOS is up to date with the Gateway.  The 900 series requires a UEFI BIOS which is the the replacement to Legacy BIOS.  Its possible your motherboard may not support UEFI and you may not be able to use a GTX 960 with it.

Keep in mind it could be other things as well if you do have a UEFI BIOS.

You'll have to check with Gateway if that's the correct BIOS, or if you can update to it. Some of their PCs that shipped with Win7 can't be updated to the Win8 UEFI BIOS.
