All I can say is you'll need Windows 8.1  to make the XP941 a boot drive.  And depending on your daily usage, if you move a lot of files around, I would possibly get some thermal tape and heat sinks for the XP941.  It can get toasty.

Already running 8.1. It's all good. Got plenty of airflow in the case. Havn't been reading much on the forums lately working too much. How is the overclocking?

Overclocking is a lottery. Just monitor your temps and you may be able to push 4.4 or higher. Those are relatively good CPUs from. The reviews so far.

I can absolutely confirm that you do not need windows 8/8.1 to make XP941 a bootable drive. I installed windows 7 64bit on the XP941 on my ASRock X99 Extreme6/AC motherboard, with no issues whatsoever. Unless the issue you're talking about is unique to the EVGA X99 classified motherboard itself. In that case, I had no idea, thats crazy, and nevermind my comment :)

Yes, I am talking about EVGA's X99 Classified.  Everyone who has got it to work was with Windows 8.1.  I have personally and others have tried everything to make it to work with Windows 7 as I never intended nor wanted to get Windows 8.1.

Honestly Win 8.1 isn't that bad. I've been playing with WIN 10 on a vm. So far liking it. Once it comes out i'll be switching right over.

Very similar setup. No real problems other than Win 10 Build 9926 issues.
