Howdy All,

Just got the Z87 FTW mobo, and I believe a fourth gen intel i7 proc.  Its the 4770.  Will I need to update the bios to latest version?

I am asking because I replaced my old mobo (AMD chipset) with this intel setup.  I plugged everything back in and ran it. Windows does not load and the comptuer goes into repair mode, which I am guessing is because of the hardware change? I can easily reinstall windows.

Last question.  I am running Corair Dominator Plat. 1866mhz ram x16 gigs.  The mobo specs say 2300+ or 2800+ so can I run the 1866 mhz ram without issue's?  I dont see why not but figured I would ask.

Thanks for your time!

mslevitz welcome to our forums! To answer your first question, yes you will need to do a clean install of Windows since your current Windows boot partition bears the chipset mappings of your old motherboard. As for the memory, It should function without any problems with the stock memory frequency (the manufacturer should also list recommended frequency and voltages on their official site) but check on the modules themselves if they support XM profiles. Typically the speed the modules are advertised as is what the memory can support when overclocking not necessarily the speed they will perform at right out of the box.

Hey and welcome to the forum.  I just went through this with migrating from x58 to z87 and  yes you must do a clean installation of windows when you cross chipsets like that.
