Morning folks. I am having a RAM problem and wonder if there is something I can try before I start the painful process of RMA'ing. The three standard slots for the RAM to the right of the CPU no longer allow any RAM to be in them. My system will not boot with RAM in these slots. If I remove the RAM, boot right up. Now I tried all my sticks, same issue. Place the same sticks in the standard slots on the left side of the CPU... Boots right up. In fact for the last few weeks I have had all four sticks in all four slots to the left of the CPU... I do realize only two are being used and recognized, just thought I would mention it. So, is it the CPU crapping out or the MOBO or is there something I can try to fix this?

Which motherboard? have you tried individual sticks one at a time? Try one stick at a time on the right side. your either going to find a bad stick of ram or the MB is dunzo

Check for CPU pin socket damage.

Sorry about that... Dark MOBO... I have not touched the CPU or any of the product once all of it was assembled last year. Thus there shudl be no pin damage. This system has been working flawlessly. I do not have any other RAM to try, but because they seem to work in the left banks of the CPU, it tells me CPU or MOBO or something I am not aware of is causing an issue...

your not getting what I'm saying. Try 1 stick at a time on right side. that way you can sort out which module is bad. Don't trust that just because the left side is fine that all 4 or 8 stick which ever you are running are good.

I understood. I just did not answer as well as I should have... One stick, any stick, on the right side and this system will not boot. One stick on the left, and any stick on the right will not allow this system to boot. Two stick, three sticks on the left, any stick on the right will not allow it to boot.

I would rather it be that than the CPU... Thank you for your input. Any others have thoughts?

If you have access to another x79 MB to test the CPU and ram in would be good idea to at least rule out a CPU issue. Other than that looks like you have tried everything, looking like RMA time ;-)

Nothing I can see. Even tore the case apart for a detailed cleaning and saw nothing...

Did you blow out the slot with a can of air, I had a small hair/wire in one of my slots once and had to pull it out with tweezers.

Will do, thanks for the help. It arrived today. I am on day two of a migraine, so I will swap it out tomorrow... bcavnaugh Did you blow out the slot with a can of air, I had a small hair/wire in one of my slots once and had to pull it out with tweezers.
Yes, tried all the tricks I know. What sold me on it being the MOBO was the fact if I move all the RAM to the left four slots (Filling all four slots to the left of the CPU) all 16 gigs work...

Good news. It was the MOBO... Everything is running as normal again. However this MOBO does not like to OC to 4.0 for some reason... It is fighting me pretty hard. All I had to do with the last one was set it to 1.25 and I was done... That will be for another weekend I guess =] Thank you all for your input!

I had that issue on the X79 Classified Motherboard and found that I bent 3 CPU Pins.
