I have an old SLI bridge cable that is a single to single plug. Does it make a difference from the dual plug bridges I've seen are available?

Enacku, besides the obvious physical difference, the operation of the 2-way SLI bridge is the same as a 3-way or 4-way bridge. If you wanted to you could use a 4-way bridge to sync two cards. Here is a diagram that will give you a pretty clear idea of how a 3 or 4-way bridge works http://tpucdn.com/img/07-10-12/3wayslibridge.jpg. Basically each subsequent card needs to communicate directly with the "master" card or the card plugged into the primary PCIe slot on your board.

I wish you could cut off the middle connectors of a 3-way bridge...... I'd be able to use it on two triple slot cards on my motherboard, and keep my x-fi pci-e 1x card...... but the way it is, the middle connectors land right on top of that slot!

Thanks for the visual image, had no clue the connection worked like that in 3 way.

hmmmm, looking at that diagram, I almost think I could indeed cut the middle connectors off and have it work? lol

I know there are 2-way bridges out there that are longer to allow for connectors further apart. Check NewEgg.

A flexible SLI bridge would be a better alternative to "modding" your 3 way bridge.
