Z87 and 5.1 audio

Hi I'm looking to purchase  a new 5.1 speaker system. Question is can I set up 5.1 audio speaker system with the onboard audio or do I need a internal sound card?
I have an older 5.1 speaker system but with only the one green jack to the sub and really only works on 2.1
This is a EVGA Z87 classified mother board .

    Yes it supports 6 Channel sound, so it will work with a 5.1 system
    The audio chip it has:
    6 Channel Creative Sound Core3D

    Thanks, so it would need the new 5.1 system with the 3 wire plug in correct?
