I installed BF4 today and started playing the campaign.  I have the newest Nvidia drivers installed.  I have no issues with any games or benchmark tests at all.

While playing BF4 I got a BSOD of twice.  Both times it was 0x00000101 error.  That usually means I need more Vcore.  I find that odd since I have tested my current settings for stability many times and it has been rock solid.  Anyway I bumped the Vcore up from 1.38125 to 1.38750.  I haven't had a BSOD since doing that but I have had a few freezes/lockups that required a reboot.  I only played for about an hour so I can't say for sure if the BSOD problem is really fixed.  Again, I don't think I needed to increase Vcore since my system has been rock stable.  Temps are not the issue.

I searched for issues with BF4 and found many.  I was hoping maybe some other x58 users here have had a similar issue.

I just got another BSOD with the same error code.

I have been testing stability using LineX and sure enough my system is no longer stable.  I raised the voltage in steps but even up to 1.400 it is still crashing.  What makes it even stranger is I first tested it at 1.3875 and it passed 20 runs.  I then tried lower voltages and it failed.  I then raised the voltage back 1.3875 and it failed.  I raised it as high as 1.4000 and it still failed.

Is it possible my CPU is dying already?

I should mention I do have speed step enabled.  Does that have any effect while running LineX?  I don't think it should but I figured I would mention it.

Are you Overclocking your GPU to High?
    What are your Memory Settings?
It is BSOD when the CPU is set to 4.0 or 4.2?

I've been running at 4.0 daily.  I was able to get to 4.2 stable but I haven't used those settings since I made the 4.2 club.

My GPUs are overclocked but I have tested them for stability using Heaven, 3dmark and furmark.  I don't believe they are the issue since I am now crashing running LineX which doesn't test the GPUs.

I know that when I when I was testing for stability I was only using one GPU.  I am using a pair in SLI now.  Maybe I should have adjusted another voltage when I added the second card?  The only voltages I've adjusted are Vcore, VTT and Dimm.  Everything else is set to auto.

I am testing for stability at 3.8 now.  So far I have passed 13 runs at 1.3500 Vcore volts.  I would like to get stable at 4.0 ghz again but if I am right and my cpu is degrading then I will back it down a bit to 3.8 and get 100% stable there.  I don't think running much higher than 1.4000 vcore without vdroop is a safe idea for daily use.  It appears running at 1.38125 has already degraded my CPU.  If I can run at 3.8 with much lower voltage maybe that is the best thing for me to do going forward.  If it passes 20 runs at 1.3500 vcore then I will test it at lower vcore to find the lowest stable setting.  That is what I did when I tested for stability at 4.0 and 4.2.

BTW, according to Eleet and CPUID, with Vcore set to 1.400 without vdroop both programs are reporting vcore at @1.45.  That is why I am afraid to go much higher than 1.40.

Electron Migration? Look into that. It's a thing that happens to components after lots of voltage and heat are ran through them.

But honestly I think your crashing is due to BF4 for the most part. My game locks up and freezes more than I would like to admit. Each time, I hit ctrl+alt+delete and kill the program through task manager. If it was my PC freezing, I'd have to do a hard-restart.

I passed 20 runs of LinX at 161x24 with much lower Vcore.  I am now lowering VTT to find the lowest stable setting for that as well.  It appears I may have to settle for @3.8 going forward.

So it appears that my CPU now requires a lot more voltage than originally to run at 4.0.  I have to assume it is degrading.  I am surprised that it is degrading already since the computer is only on for @2 hours a day and I am using speedstep.  Which means when not under load the vcore voltage drops down to like @1.05-1.10 volts.

Should I adjust any other voltages since I am now running SLI?

After period of times formerly stable OC become unstable, you will need little Vcore increase to become stable again!!You are still pumping what are basically voltage spikes (the clock signal) in and out of the processor at speeds higher than the manufacturer certified at. So, as life-span begins to wane, the tolerances on your OC'd processor begin to slip....

Running SLI you might try increasing your IOH voltage a step or two. Also you could try reducing your CPU PLL, down to 1.75 or lower.

I decided to back down my overclock a bit. I am down to 161x24 (turbo) with vcore at 1.325 and vtt at +150. It appears to be stable. It passes 20 runs of linx with no errors. I tried running lower voltages but that appears to be the sweet spot. I have since installed another set of 3x2 gb of ram for a total of 12gb. I have been testing trying to to get that stable. I have another thread discussing that topic.

Anyway it does appear my once stable 4.0 overclock now requires more vcore than I am comfortable giving it. I am surprised it degraded so fast considering how little my computer is used.

It could be running with 12GB  your IMC can't run at the same speed as it could with 6GB. (We kinda warned you about this) You can't reduce your uncore multi below 2x your multiplier. I doubt your chip has degraded any appreciable amount.

My overclock wasn't stable anymore with my original 6gb of ram installed. The additional ram has nothing to do with it. I installed BF4 and started getting BSODs 101. I then ran linx and sure enough it was crashing. I had tested my original overclock relentlessly. For whatever reason it is no longer stable. I assume my cpu has degraded and now requires more vcore to be stable at the same overclock. This all happened before I installed the extra ram.

Hmm...okay...It's still unlikely your CPU has degraded. It generally takes years and usually clocks and voltages considerably higher than what you're using. Have you updated the BIOS or anything since?

Nope.  I have been running 83 for a long time.

I haven't noticed any issues until I installed BF4.  I was getting BSODs of 101 so I decided to run Linx.  Sure enough I was getting reboots confirming my once stable overclock was no longer stable.

I agree it is unlikely my cpu has degraded but all signs are pointing in that direction.  Especially considering I have speed step enabled I doubt I have "wore out" my cpu already only using it @2 hours a day.

Maybe something else is the issue but I doubt it.  I am no running SLI which I wasn't originally so maybe that has something to do with it.  I don't know.

SLI does draw more power so you might be seeing your voltage drop under load. But that really shouldn't be the case for running LinX since that isn't loading your GPU's. Have you considered reseating all your motherboard power cables? What is your +12v dropping to under a load?

According to CPUID my 12v hit a low of 12.04 and high of 12.26 while running P95 blend test.  I will check the cables when I have a chance but I doubt that is the issue.

I am as shocked as you that it appears my cpu is already degrading.  This is the second time since I built this rig that I had to raise the vcore because my once stable overclock was no longer stable.  I was once stable at 4.2 but I backed it down to 4.0 for daily use.  After a few months I retested for stability and it failed.  I had to bump up the vcore a notch or two.  Now a few months later I have to bump the vcore again.  All signs are pointing to a degrading cpu.  I agree it is odd especially considering I have speed step enabled and I only use my computer maybe 2 hours a day.  It is off the rest of the time.

Regardless I am now stable at the setting in my sig.  At least mostly stable.  I fail Linx if I test using more than 6gb of ram.  It passes 20 runs using 6gb but if I test using 8gb it reboots.  I left it running P95 blend test and it was still running after 8 hours when I left for work this morning.  In the ram thread I started someone else posted that using 6gb of ram is more than enough to test stability in Linx.  Assuming that is true and considering P95 has ran for over 8 hours without errors I think I am stable.

Re: I'm getting BSOD's and random lock ups playing BF4 Saturday, December 07, 2013 5:23 PM (permalink)
I've been working on getting it 100% stable and I am very very close.

I was able to pass 20 runs of LinX using all ram, over 24 hours of Memtest and I did pass P95 blend test for @20-26 hours.  I don't know the exact number on P95 since the computer rebooted after @20 hours of running and I noticed when I woke up.  I don't know of it rebooted because of a P95 error or maybe windows was trying to install an update overnight and caused a conflict.  I didn't turn automatic updates off so that is a possibility.

So I am almost 100% stable.  I honestly don't know if it is worth tweaking anything else at this point.  It is probably stable enough for me.  I am going to start playing BF4 again and see what happens.  Hopefully I don't get anymore BSODs and I can consider this now slightly lower overclock stable.

BTW, I have been discussing this in this thread as well: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1812244

So you can respond here or there if you wish.  I kept the other thread going because there have been a lot of views and I am seeing more and more people inquiring about upgrading from 6gb of ram to 12gb.

Hi, for my case I have been having BSODs of all kinds, 124, 3B since I started adding another card for SLI. I tried disabling SLI both still with 2 cards in my system but I still get BSOD under OCCT.

EDIT: Just sharing that it may or may not be that dual card configurations is messing up your OC.

Hi and Welcome to the forums...

You may want to start your own thread to get assistance with your BSOD issue.  It's a good idea also to list all your system hardware so other members can offer assistance.
