I've had SLI 780's for months and never had this issue.  Within 3 days of installing a new single 780 Ti SC ACX, my PC has shut itself off and restarted at least 6 times.  It does this while idling or watching Twitch randomly.  I can't say it's directly caused by twitch since it's inconsistent.  I am on Windows 7.

I had the same issue with a brand new GTX 780 Ti SC after two years of running SLI 580s with no problems. I'm currently in the process of RMAing the card, but if I have a similar issue when it gets back, I'll be checking out my power supply next.

If 1000W isn't enough at idle, I'm screwed!

You should check second PSU before RMA graphic???
Lot of post of people complain on all kind of crashes on different forums.
Number of people who have such problems are not low for GTX780 and GTX780Ti,
and almost every time I read over net problem was graphic card and after replacement problem stop.

"If 1000W isn't enough at idle, I'm screwed!"

1000W is enough for two, and 650W is enough if PSU work OK.
But if you have some newer PSU, or good PSU and now start problem with GPU it's very small chance to PSU like that make problem.
Chance are less than 5% but some chance always persist.

I have a Seasonic Platinum 1000W that is less than a year old.. it ran 2x OC'd 780's and 4930K with no issues, but I'm getting these shutdowns at idle with a single 780 Ti.  I highly doubt it's the power supply..

Do you have some Error in Even Viewer she notice what happen almost always.
    "Shut down was unexpected"..., or
"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.
This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly".
and similar things... Error Event ID 6008 is sometimes connected with such problems.

If you have mess in event viewer and unimportant things, stupid warnings, start to check time when problem happen.
Clean Even Viewer from previous days and weeks to easy find exactly ID when freezing happen.

I wasn't getting any blue screens or graphics drivers errors on my shutdowns - it would just react as if the power had been pulled from the wall, before restarting and coming back to my desktop as if nothing happened. Troubleshooting with EVGA support, it seemed that my card didn't like being subjected to high variable load (playing intensive DX11 games and having the usage bounce between 85-100% caused my computer to shutdown). On the other hand, loads of around 50% or ones of constant 100% load (like Folding or Furmark) were rock steady. Switching my power cables didn't help, so both support and I concluded it was possibly a card issue.

Like you, I'm skeptical that our 1000W power supplies just aren't up to the job. We've both got amperage to spare on the 12V lines, plus a single 12V rail.

Computer just shut down again while watching the Overclock.net stream on Twitch.  That makes 3x Twitch shutdowns...

I'd recommend talking to EVGA Support about that then.

Yup it only took about 8-9 minutes of watching Twitch before it shut down again.  I might just return this to Newegg and order a new one.

I started to get this problem with my setup but it only happened in Batman Arkham Origin's....computer would just completely shut off.
I set the voltage back to default on my two GTX 780 cards in SLI havn't had an issue since.
I think both the GTX 780 and TI version pull so much wattage especialy over-volted that they can easily cause this issue especialy if you have a lot of extra's on your computer hooked up to it as well as an OC on your CPU.
For me keeping the OC on my CPU and GPU's but simply moving GPU voltage to stock was enough to keep it from shutting off....I just have to many extra thing's (especialy hard drives/fan's plugged into my computer. Good luck with sorting it out.

My Seasonic has 83 amps on the +12v.. it's more than enough for a Ti.  And my problems only happen at idle D:

I went ahead and ordered a 2nd Ti from Newegg to return this one.  Hope it is just the card, as I seriously can't think of a better power supply without spending $300.

If your card have Dual BIOS, you can check other, maybe is BIOS problem.
That can restart PC easy in any situation and other BIOS to work normal.

Oh I agree Seasonic is one of if not the best power supply maker's out there.

They are by far the brand I have had the least issues with and one of the few brand's I have seen online where corner's were not cut to cheapen the product for profit.

I can report 3 more crashes.  One was during an OC'd run of Assassin's Creed (this is the only shut down under load), and the other two happened just now within 3 seconds of opening a Twitch recording of myself.

Why on earth would Twitch shut down my computer?!

I got a new card from Newegg and it shut down on me within 1 day.  I still have serious doubts that this is a Seasonic 1000W issue, but I will be looking into new power supplies while opening discussion with EVGA support and Seasonic RMA.

I'll be watching alongside you. I have an open ticket with EVGA, as RMAing the card did not resolve my issue. I've got a list of driver-related checks to go through when I return home in early January, but will also keep a new PSU in the back of my mind.

So how did this wind up? i just bought a GTX 780 and have the same problem... and i tried a different power supply, an evga supernova and the issue persists. i thought it might be dirty power in the home and just bought a UPS to try and regulate the power to the computer, but after reading this, i wonder... and for me, the shut down are totally random, its just as likely to happen while web browsing as it is to happen in a game.

    Hi folks,

I have the same problem with these cards. Random rebooting with no explanation in event viewer, et cetera.

I tested both cards individually and one was not able to complete benchmarks on an individual basis. Forget SLI.

I tried 3Dmark, 3D Mark 11 advanced, OC scanner and others and one card kept rebooting my PC. I RMA'ed the card and got a new one. This card works much better than the first but still causes reboots, especially in SLI under extreme loads.

I have 2 X 1200Watt Thermaltake PSU's, one for the cards, and one for the board and components. Some other components I have are a Core i7 920 @ 4 Ghz, 18 Gigs of Dominator Ram, Win 7 Ultimate. CPU, Chipset, Cards, water cooled at 20C. My 5780's worked flawlessly in crossfire when benchmarking.

I am a bit disappointed after spending good coin on these cards only to find out that there is obviously a design flaw. I am not the only one experiencing this problem.

How about you try running with just a single PSU? You don't need 2 1200 watt PSUs to run what you listed. One is far more than enough. You also listed 18GB of memory. Are you running mixed sizes of modules?

There's no problem running 2 PSU's in a system, especially identical ones, I have more loads as well.

Yes, running mixed sizes but same RAM. Never had an issue running my previous cards.

Okay, but for troubleshooting purposes, eliminating variables usually leads to a quicker solution. I'd also suggest, just for troubleshooting, you only have one type of memory installed with the timings set manually in the BIOS.

Fortunately, I had another set of 3 X 2 Gig sticks of Dominator RAM, now at 12 Gigs and still doing the same. Ran a single PSU and still the same.

I tried everything to get these cards to cooperate. Individually one card works fine when benchmarking and the other does not and in SLI no go either. This, the second card after an RMA. I think I will try one more RMA.
