GPU boost is lowering volts on non-boost frequencies and its causing crashes in some of my lower powered games games (Warframe, Path of Exile)
The GPU can run 1228/1.2v all day (BF4 plays fine, for example), but those games are not pushing it enough and it downclocks to 954/0.8v. That voltage is too low and causes crashing. The only way I can fix this is by removing vsync, then the game plays at 300+ FPS and tears like a mofo, but doesn't crash because the GPU is properly fed. The "prefer max performance setting is ON of course, as it should solve this problem ... if it actually worked.

EVGA K boost is useless I dont want max clocks (and noise and heat) when surfing the web.

    Hey, Mandor, same issue here.

Diablo 3 plays fine all the way down to 0.887v, but Path of Exile doesn't seem to like anything below 1.025.
Unreal Tournament also has this issue, as well as Battlefield 3 (Disabling Post Processing was a temp fix for B3)

EVGA tech support sent me the newest vBIOS, but it didn't change anything.

Check out this thread I made (Apparently I can't post links yet)

glad to see im not the only one !
I also made a thread on TPU, number is 196924

It would seem base clock voltage is inversely linked with core offset, which is illogical. I was able to demonstrate this in Warframe, where changing core offset from 0 to +100 actually lowered the base clock (954mhz) voltage from 1.025 to 0.950. This only happens in older games where boost is not used. In newer games, like BF4 and crysis and such, boost voltage is used (in my case 1.2v) and the card is fully stable.

what we need is a way to set base clock voltage so it doesn't crash when boost doesn't kick in in older games

One temporary fix I found is to disable vsync, frame rates go up to 300+, you get coil whine, heat, and higher power consumption, but also full boost clocks and voltage.

Obviously this has to be fixed

I think a custom bios that disables boost 2.0 is going to be our only fix. I'm not happy running K-Boost 24/7.

I'd be able to get away with no v-sync in Path of Exile if the game didn't dip to absurdly low FPS when opening the character window, noticeboard, or looking at something in chat.

Apparently the Skyn3t vBIOS did fix Mandor's problem, I've yet to try it though as I'd rather have an official fix.

Don't want to bump an old thread but I just thought I would say I'm having the same issue with my GTX 780 FTW.  When playing iRacing with vsync on, the clocks drop to 980MHz and down to 0.987v.  I noticed some instability that almost certainly is caused by the lack of voltage.  This is running with the core at +39.  If I set the clocks back to default, it only drops to 1.012v.  I fixed the issue for now by using the skyn3t custom BIOS that only drops my clocks to 1030MHz but maintains my 1.150v.  Either way it is alarming that EVGA will not address the issue.

Jacob, I've been trying to email you but I keep getting an error "SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host mail.evga.com [65.113.29.35]: 554 rejecting banned content".  I've tried to email you from two separate email addresses and got the same error.

    Hey there, Zone.

I'm still running K-boost 24/7 with no word of a fix. Jacob told me that he filed an official bug report with Nvidia when we were last in contact, but it has been nearly a month without any update.

try and set max performance in nv profiles for the particular game

Already did that.  It has nothing to do with the profiles or the game.  The problem is the card drops into lower power state and for some reason instead of dropping just the clocks, it drops the voltage too.  It only drops to 1.012v if I leave my clocks at stock.  But with a +39 overclock on the core the voltage drops to .987v and then I start getting some instability.  The problem CAN be fixed with a BIOS update as evident by the fact that the problem doesn't exist with the custom skyn3t BIOS.

Can confirm that the Skyn3t BIOS fixes this problem.

This is exactly what has been happening to my card lately. Unfortunately it won't boot up after last crash from voltage dropping in game way too much. I've contacted support in hopes of a fix.

Sorry to hear that, Kyle. Hope you can get that problem fixed soon.

Path of Exile still doesn't like the voltage dropping, but it's not artifacting anymore, just a random black screen that disconnects me from the server.

Found a fix that works perfect though! Now since there's no more boost, I can set the Path of Exile profile to "Prefer Maximum Performance" and it keeps it at 1032 Mhz / 1.149v.

Max load is still 1100 Mhz like it was before with Boost 2.0. Only difference is that I have to run a 78 Mhz overclock to get it

Experiencing the same problem as the one reported above...
I have emailed Jacob and hope to have a reply from him soon.
Any word on official solutions for this?

Has any progress been made or are we still stuck with a 3rd party BIOS?

We're still stuck with the 3rd part BIOS. No problems at all though, which is great.

Yea, just a little aggravating that EVGA won't fix the issue.  They sell us these cards with so much emphasis on overclocking, but then won't fix a flaw with the BIOS that causes the voltage to drop to unstable levels when you overclock.

if your setting for max performance in the Nvidia control panel it should not be downclocking, if it is. your profile is not loading correctly.
