I currently have a tri-sli set up of gtx 580's hydro copper and my problem is everytime i play a game using a tri-sli set up, the game crashes.  I tried disabling tri-sli and it works perfectly.  Could it be that one of my cards is causing it to crash?  How do i diagnose the other cards if they have a problem?

Please post your system config specs, including monitor setup and OS version for review

I am running on windows 7 ultimate 64-bit with the following specs:
    - Intel i7 990x
    - 20gb of RAM (Corsair)
    - GeForce GTX 550 hydro copper (3-way sli)
    - monitor is Samsung which is running in 1920x1080 with a refresh rate of 60Hz

by the way, i think i have solved this problem already by uninstalling the newer version of driver using display driver uninstaller and installing an older version.

Are you using Precision or Afterburner?
If so, a file has probably become corrupted..
The fix (so you can use newer drivers) is easy. Simply shut down and then Uninstall the program.
*During the uninstall a box pops up asking to save data. You -MUST- answer NO and not save that data.
Reboot once after the uninstall is completed.

You may now install your newer driver
After your Nvidia driver is installed, make sure to reboot once.
You may then re-install Precision (use only version 4.2.1)
    -------------------------------------------

Also you did NOT mention what motherboard you are using.
There is a KNOWN problem on some x58 motherboards running tri--SLI GTX 580's
Please post the make and model number of your MB, so we can see if this problem effects you.
*this can be a very serious issue--> should your MB not have a supplementary PCIE power source available and connected.

    --------------------------------------------

You also posted that your running 20gig of system RAM
The x58 uses triple channel RAM in a 3 slot configuration for each bank
If your "mixing" RAM modules of different sizes, then you have defaulted to single channel status...
This is KNOWN to sometimes cause videocard issues as well.
Please post make/model number of any RAM sticks in your system, and what slots they are installed in

here is your MB home page http://us.msi.com/product/mb/X58A-GD65.html

You do NOT have a supplementary PCIE power connection on that MB
This "can" lead to the known issue of 24pin meltdown when running Tri-SLI (most especially when videocard overclocking) of GTX 480's and 580's
You should check (power down and remove) the 24pin power connection from the MB and very carefully with a flashlight examine both the 24 pin -and- the socket it plugs into on the motherboard, for signs of overheating, melting or discoloration....
*the first sign of impending serious trouble from this issue, is crashing....
(below is a example of 24pin meltdown on a x58 MB running tri-SLI that did NOT have a supplementary PCIE power connection)

As for the RAM sticks, as suspected you have (1) extra stick installed, and this has disabled triple channel mode
For performance and stability, it is suggested to remove the extra stick and return your system RAM to full triple channel mode.
Please check section 2-9(diagram 3) of the manual for your MB, for the correct placement of the (3) remaining sticks...
(as shown in the manual below)

    --------------------------------------------------

For your issue with NOT being able to use newer drivers, the fix I posted for Precision/Afterburner should fix that issue

The RAM will run "ok" with (4) sticks (placed as shown in the MB manual)
But your RAM will run much faster/better if one stick was removed, and the (3) remaining are placed according to the manual

    Your most welcome

I still run my original x58 system and have run GTX 580's in SLI
The platform is extremely well known after all these years...

*Note: not all x58's have the 24pin issue, so if you dont see damage to it (24pin) and the system is stable you may not suffer from it

I am curious, what driver have you found stable? The most recent stable driver for me is the 327.23!

Your issue is known to NVidia. I have the same issue, with GTX580's in sli. It is a known driver bug.

I have spoken with ManuelG (NVIDIA GEFORCE Forums Driver Feedback Moderator). Below is the bug report I submitted to him, and his response. At the time I thought it was an issue with there being a 3rd card installed (not part of the sli), but have since discovered it is a bug with 580 series in sli, period

    ----------
    Manel,

Ever since the 327.23 driver there has been a bug with 580 sli configuration

Long story short, when I launch any game with SLI enabled, the game will either freeze upon startup, or the game will be extremely choppy. It was happening with every game that I launched. However, with the most recent beta drive, the issue is BETTER, however it still exists. Heroes of Newerth however will not launch at all, it gives me a d3d error and crashes upon startup. If I revery my driver back to 327.23, it works perfect, along with all other games.

ALSO NOTE- I HAVE 2 additional gpu's in my pc (for a total of 4). 2x 580's in SLI and 2 620's (used for additional monitors). If I remove the 2 additional video cards, the issue goes away and everythng works fine with the new drivers. However, if I enable either, or both of the 620 video cards with the new drive, the problem comes back....in short

With any driver above 327.23, any additional graphics card other than the ones in SLI, cause the games to crash, and/or run extremely choppy(maybe 1 frame per 2 seconds)

I don't know how better to describe it, and if I can be of any further help in reporting this let me know. (as far as providing more information or diagnostic reports etc)

    Here is the scenario:

I have an EVGA SR-2 Motherboard, with
    2x E5620 processors
    24GB memory
all at stock settings, on newest bios
    2x EVGA 580 Hyrdo Copper 2 (Sli)
    2x EVGA 620 (for additional monitors/PhysX)
    Windows 8

ANYTIME I enable SLI, all games will freeze/crash to desktiop/black screen
NO GAMES WILL START WITH SLI Enabled
Now, if I disable the 2 620 cards in device manager, sli will work
If I disable the cards via the jumpers on the motherboard, sli will also work!

Long story short with 2 580's in sli, GAMES WILL NOT WORK WITH ANY ADDITIONAL VIDEO CARDS INSTALLED
I rolled my driver back 327.23, that driver works!

ANYTHING NEWER THAN THAT WILL NOT ALLOW AN ADDITIONAL GRAPHICS CARD TO BE ENABLED SHEN YOU ARE USING SLI! (with the exception of the newest beta driver 334.67m which some games work fine, but others still have the problem. But that driver did show an improvement

Thanks for any help you can provide!

    PLEASE FIX!!!!
    -------

    ManuelG response below

We have a couple of fixes for this however due to the timing of the fix, it doesn't look like it will appear in our next driver that will be released soon. However I am hoping it can be included in the following driver. QA needs to test the fix and make sure it does not introduce new bugs.

    ---------------------------------

Hopefully we will get a fix soon! I encourage you to post over at the Geforce forum under the driver feedback. There are not a lot of us 580sli users left, so we need all hands on deck if we want a fix implemented soon! Hope this eases your mind. I went thought the same thing, but rest easy, there is nothing wrong with your hardware! :)
