Hello, I have run into a problem yesterday since I have installed an EVGA GTX 550 Ti into my system. Most games I have run since installing this card have started freezing, before freezing my entire system and most of the time forcing me to restart. I have managed to get Terraria to work though. I'm running driver 331.40 as of now, I've tried 306.94 and 327.23 with no change to the problem.

Here are a list of my specs.

Motherboard: M4A785-M Asus

GPU: EVGA GTX 550 Ti

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9850

______________________________________________________________________________
Also, I have a 750 watt power supply, so I believe power should not be an issue.
I've also found that the Nvidia drivers installed sound drivers I recall, and I disabled them in the device manager as a warning showed up next to them.

Before I installed this card, I was running an ATI card. I did have another Nvidia card and it had most of the same problems I am facing now.
__________________________________________________________________________
Temperature seems to not be an issue either, I have an average temperature of 34 C for my GPU, my CPU isn't much higher either.

Hello,

You may want to run AMDs Catalyst Un-install Utility from http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/catalyst-uninstall-utility.aspx

Then reinstall the drivers for the nvidia video card. Choose custom, then check the box for perform clean installation.

Hi, thank you, I did as said, the problem still persists. I originally installed the ATI drivers through the program menu and afterwards Driver Sweeper.
I've noticed that Company of Heroes worked on low settings, but when I turned the settings to high, the game began to have the same problem as most of my other games.

I had this problem with the same graphics card and rolled back from a beta driver. I also chose to quit using beta drivers and I am currently on driver 320.49 with no problems.

How did you remove your old drivers?

I didn't. The installer you can get from here, at least, does:
You just run it and check the things you want and everything gets replaced.
I can't post links yet, actually. Just google "nvidia driver downloads" and it should be the first result

The only other help I can try and provide is to try moving your card to another slot on your mobo, but that should probably be a last resort. I guess you can wait and see if somebody else can help you out.

If you haven't removed ALL ATi Drivers.. do so

Secondly, Install drivers 314.22 (they're the most stable).

Generally.. when you go to install a new card, you
1) remove all old drivers either nVidia OR AMD.
2) Make sure all is seated and powered according to its specifications
3) upon first boot, run the drivers of the new card
4) Restart
5) Run the WEI (Windows Experiance Index)

if problem still persists, either a AMD Driver is causing issues, or systems underpowered.

Who makes the 750W PSU
How old is it
Is it properly supply power?

Also, do you have all your bio's updated?

Bad typo on the post regarding the ATI drivers. I meant to type uninstall and accidentally typed install, I'm sure all of the ATI drivers are uninstalled and gone.

The PSU is made by Ultra, the PSU is no older than maybe 1-2 years. My bios are all up to date. Also, I believe the driver issue could be with my soundcard (Creative) or my Network USB Adapter.  I'm currently installing the 314 drivers, I'll edit this when I'm done.  Still having the same problems.

Bump, anyone know what is wrong, and I'm very sure the power supply is not a problem. If this helps any, I have a Creative sound card.

UPDATE: I've changed the number of cores one of my games used (to one) and the game didn't crash, it was also in windowed mode. However, this isn't a fix. As not all games are fixed by this.

One last bump, and a possible fix, I'm using two power supplies to power my system, I'm going to see how this works, I'll update in a few minutes probably.
UPDATE: IT WORKS! IT WORKS!!! I'm going to buy a new power supply soon, as I don't feel very safe with these two power supplies powering the computer at the same time, but yeah..don't buy an Ultra power supply, or at least the one I have.

Ultra PSU's are very poor quality, so the fact its a year or two old.. most likely was the issue. Look at getting one from either Corsair, Seasonic or the likes.. Actual respectable power supplies that do there job and do it well.

Ultra's don't output the correct amps, don't out put the correct wattage or have power regulation actually worthy...

You're most welcome. ^^

PS: I know this isn't the same watts but take this with a grain of salt.

PSS: Have found an actual 750W by Ultra. here's the review
