Hello everyone.
I have a problem with my hard drive. When I go to install Windows. In Windows Installer. My drive is not recognized impossible for me to install. My two disc are recognized by the bios. I do not know what to do help me. :)

same here, just finished the build, now when i try to select my SSD ( i see it ) to install Windows, it says: We couldn't create an new partition or locate an existing one.

Are these drives you guys refer to, new drives? Or were they installed in previous rigs and still have the OS on them? Or were they formatted in your previous rig before moving them to your new build?

Thanks. I have an Asus Rampage IV Extreme. I had to install Windows 8 64-bit. Thus Driver. But she broke in overnight. But my SSD contains the driver for the Asus and Windows 8. Now there is neither detect my SSD. Neither my 3TB hard drive.

You may need to do a fresh OS install. Sometimes you can simply move the boot drive to the new rig, but not always. Give your thread a bit more time. Maybe someone else will have more info for you. I always do fresh OS installs when going to a new motherboard.

You should be able to boot into the UEFI/BIOS. Then change your boot order in the BIOS so your DVD drive is 1st. Make sure your OS install disk is in that drive. Then reboot and it should launch on the OS install disk.

Btw, my problem is solved, but I do not think we had the same trouble GaidenTiger
After my computer parts was mounted, i inserted the Windows 8 disk to format and install a new OS on my Crucial M4 SSD. But Windows did not want and an error message appeared: We couldn't create an new partition or locate an existing one.
I disconnected every USB wire and other accessories that was plugged and i kept only my keyboard, plugged into a USB slot from the motherboard directly (not in front of my computer case)
After 3 or 4 reboot, it finally worked. The reason isn't clear at all...

Yes I did that. But not format. (I test a method I'll plug my SSD in my Macbook Pro I'll start with GPARTED I'll try to force the format in NTSC :).....

When you boot on the install disk, doesn't it ask you about formatting the drive at that point?

Yes it offers me. But not detected my SSD. Now I got through to the format with GPARTED. But the same Windows problems not detected. But my Macbook Pro yes it detects. I do not understand.

In the BIOS under "Advanced" >> "SATA Config", do you have your Sata Mode set to AHCI Mode"

Yes it is set to AHCI. I also tried DE does not work either.

I have the 1.14 version of bios. An old can. I you update the BIOS using a USB key. ? If so, how. ?

Plug the SSD into your Intel Sata port. Leave the other hard drives unplugged. With only 1 hard drive connected, Windows has to see it.

Good suggestion. Never entered my mind he may not be in the correct port...  Maybe that will be the answer for him.

For the X79 Dark the boot device should be UEFI. If this is a fresh install of windows then change the boot order to UEFI. If that doesn't work and you have another PC in your home I can tell you how to install Windows from a USB stick. Just let me know.

To boot from a USB stick (4 to 8GB minimum size) perform the following on another PC with the Windows DVD: - Open an elevated command prompt (admin rights)
- Start diskpart
- Enter list disk
- Enter select disk number (this is the number for your USB drive)
- Enter the following commands, (all data on the USB device will be wiped clean):
- clean
- create partition primary
- select partition 1
- active
- format quick fs=fat32
- assign
- exit
- Mount or extract the Windows 7 or 8 ISO
- Copy the contents from the ISO to the USB stick
- xcopy S:\* D:\ /s /e (S = the ISO drive or contents, D = the USB device)
- (Remove the stick correctly from the other PC and come back to the X79 Dark. Reboot your computer and enter the BIOS
- Enable the option “UEFI only” or similarly named option.
- Save and exit, boot from your USB stick to start the install.

The USB stick method is pretty reliable.
