I have had this system for years and have had some problems over time. My specs are as follow:

i7-920 @ stock settings
evga x58 e759 classified
gtx 560 ti 448 classified
6gb kingston hyper-x
some hard drives and other misc stuff

Recently i've noticed nothing wrong with my pc other than the cold boot issues it has had forever. Recently however i've been getting a BSOD from time to time. The number is very long and ends with 0's followed by 51. What i don't understand is that this BSOD does not get recorded in event viewer anywhere. The only BSOD i have ever seen before was related to Vcore or VTT when i was overclocking. I never really felt the need to keep my pc overclocked because all i really do is play dota 2. However everything is at stock settings and i've recently been seeing BSOD 51 more frequently. Now it sometimes happens before windows even loads (after i type my password in). As of today this problem has virtually rendered my PC useless and being a poor college student, building a new PC is not an option currently.

I've tried running bare bones and the problem still exists. Does anyone know what this BSOD is? i haven't the foggiest where to start and hope i can make my pc usable again in the near future.

Error 51 is a Registry related error. Your Registry has become corrupted or you have defective hardware. Ignore the part of this post that tells you to use Registry repair utilities. Registry repair utilities are more trouble than they are worth and normally require you to perform a fresh installation of your whole operating system after they get done destroying it.

You can perform an in-place Windows repair install which should fix any Registry problems.

Hmm never really thought it could be registry related. Makes sense though, I've been having feelings something was wrong with my boot drive anyway. I'll just do a fresh install and see what happens. Never really liked messing around with a corrupt registry. Been there.. ended up with a fresh install a few days later anyway.

At least i have somewhere to start and can stop taking things apart! Thanks for the info.
