High settings and 4XMSAA makes me use an average 3GB but sometimes 4GB!! Is it poorly optimized or does it just needs that VRAM? Seems strange for a 2 year old game.

There's a difference between memory allocation and memory usage. When there is an abundance of resources, an application will sometimes reserve more than is required so there's no reallocation latency with a spike in resource needs.

For example, the Nvidia New Dawn Demo was designed for use on a 680SLI solution, specifically a 690. It will allocate as much as 2.2GB though if that space is available, however it assuredly is not using more than 2GB at any time.

That's what I have heard- Still kind of surprising a game that old would even allocate so much. Oh yeah and I'm too lazy yo upload a screenshot right now XD

I guess it just allocated a lot with my TITAN. Probably didn't use it all.

Yeah strange. Still mad my TITAN can't max the game while maintaining 60+ FPS-even at high it sometimes dips in the 40s. I think another TITAN is in order... And yeah I guess after 6 years you've had the time to make 16000 posts. I've been on for like a month XD

Yup. Running with every game setting maxed including 4X SSAA never saw more than 1.3GB vram usage, period. Metro: LL ,didn't 'allocate' any unusual amount. There are some games that will stream or load textures into vram if you got it available. Crysis 2 and 3  being a couple.

    True.

I had posted some time ago max VRAM values at 1080p and extreme (but playable) settings for many games.

Then you will like Metro LL.  Playing at 2560x1600 no pbm so far except a 1 or 2 Windows 8 Explorer crashing when playing.  Not sure why.

That sucks... I was playing Tomb Raider and it was crashing all the time. I think I disabled MSAA and used FXAA and that fixed it. AMD wasn't being cool when they didn't give nVidia the code to do their drivers right until a week before the game release. Metro is an nV title so I don't think it would have driver problems.
