Hi all,

I'm going to build a new gaming pc & right now I'm using an Alienware X51 with GTX 660 1.5 GB custom bios overclocked to 1215Mhz & Mem +525Mhz with 1.0volt

Spec

Intel Core i7-5820K Processor (15M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz)
Corsair H110i GT Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
EVGA X99 Classified
G.Skill Ripjaws 4 16GB (4X4GB) 3000MHz Ultimate DDR4
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Superclocked 6GB x 2 Units (SLI)
Kingston HyperX Savage 240GB x 2 Units (Raid 0)
WD Black 4TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache
Corsair Obsidian Series 750D Full Tower ATX Case
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P2 Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance K70 RGB Mechanical - Cherry MX Red
Asus ROG Gladius Wired Optical Mouse
Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144hz 27" Monitor

What I want to know is that whether any one with experience with 980/980 Ti (Hydro cooled/Watercooled) suggest the following

1) Build the machine with AIO cooled CPU & Air cooled GPU & upgrade to EK water cooling for CPU & 2xGPU

2) This is my first custom gaming rig that I'm building so should I invest in water cooling right away or WAIT!!!.

Appreciate the comments on the build as well.

Look forward hearing from the experts

Paul

I the goal is to put the whole thing under water, you are better off just doing it from the start. If you are fine with breaking it all down again and want to use it now then you can wait. If you are talking about just using the hybrid cooler then you can wait, it does make a huge impact on the heat it can move but the card is fine without it also. I have a pair using the hybrid coolers since I got dared into making an AIO monster so pretty much everything has one or has one getto rigged onto it.

I always test the system and do a crazy burn-in before putting the custom loop in. Personally I keep a h100 CPU cooler laying around and I out the system together in the care going to be used. I load it up with my games and applications. I use the crap out of it for a couple weeks. Then I already she the system in the case and I start planning my loop and parts. Then after a good solid stability use over time I get the parts in and then do the loop..

From what I've researched, these Maxwell cards have the highest cost to benefit lowest performance gains that I have seen. I wouldn't do a full loop as it will cost about 800-1k for SLI and would only gain maybe 100-120 MHz and lower temps by 20c average. IMO! I am doing water cooling but with just the hybrid coolers. At 110 each, I think that cost is right for the performance gained.

Custom full loops look great and I like them, but most people who have done them told me they wouldn't recommend it unless you have lots of time and like to tool mod and bench more than game.

Given your chassis choice and stated components, it doesn't seem like you'll have an excess of heat in the chassis to worry about.  I'd put the SLI loop on low priority as the panel you'll be driving will be just peachy as is with a pair of air cooled Ti's.  As the Wookie said, the cost to benefit ratio isn't really there for Maxwell chips.  In my case, I generally water cool my card(s) if I'm concerned about case temp, and that's about it.  The big space heater in your upcoming machine will be the CPU, and you'll already have it on water.

Now that said, if you PLAN on doing a full loop of CPU/GPU components at some time in the future, I'd definitely rather do it on initial install than to purchase additional AIO coolers and whatnot that will just be tossed later.
