Hey guys! Just got a "new" X58 Classified 2 days ago and haven't really had too much time to play around with it. Aside from that, the reason why I say "new" is because the box I bought in (from a retailer), looked to be unopened and had the white bands around it to keep it from being opened.

But, when I took the board out, I could immediately tell that the back of the board was a little sticky (I have handled many components/motherboard, so I know how to handle them). Upon inspection the board looked to have some dry liquid streaks across the back (you can clearly see the dried out liquid), it appears to have been wiped across the back of the board with a sponge.

Now this is my first EVGA board, and I don't know if all the board come like this from the factory, but never have I ever seen something like this from any of the other board that I have handled.

Please shed some light here for me. I want to know whether I should swap the board or something. Thanks.

My E760 did not come like that at all. It was perfectly new and felt the way it should be felt.  I would contact EVGA support and see what they say.  The suppurt is first class and they should take care of you.

Thanks for the input. I actually have 30 days in store warranty if anything is not right with the board. I will take it back to the store first and get it replaced, if they don't help I will contact EVGA directly.

That is sure what I would do.
I know you said it had bands around it, did it have the clear plastic EVGA seal on the box ends?

It had the clear EVGA seal at the box opening part, but it looked like it had been removed and put back on. I didn't think too much of it as I thought it could have just been during shipping, since the white bands that hold the box together were still intact. Also, the anti-static bag containing the motherboard is supposed to be sealed with a yellow sticket. When I opened the box, half of the sticker was ripped out.

What I am thinking is that this may have been an RMA'd board. But I didn't pay a premium price for an RMA'd board!

Everyone thus far has given sound advice...return it to the store and while you are there have them open the new box for your inspection. I would not leave the store until you are sure without a doubt that they have provided you with a new, never before used, motherboard.

Some companies open and inspect the board and then reseal it. I've seen posts about this in the past, the sticky gloss is a coating from the manufacturing process, and mine was still sticky when I opened the box at the store. contact your vendor, explain your suspicions, and see what they say, if your satisfied wiyh their answer move on, if not request an exchange, but don't be suprised if the replacment looks the same. or if they want to charge you shipping, My box from Microcenter had the apearance of being opened when I bought it, but the sales person and I went through the box at the register to make sure everything was there.

Mine was sealed up with both ends with the evga seal attached.

For that price for a motherboard, I would not hesitate to return for a replacement that you are comfortable with.

Some stores put thier own stickers on everything that they sell. I would go back to the store that you got it from and at least ask them.

My 760 was very sticky icky as well! It had its problems (not show stopping ones) and is being shipped back to Newegg right now.

I don't think my 758 was sticky out the box though.

As far as I know, and as far as anyone has seen, there should be no sticky residue on the board whatsoever. That was my biggest concern. Although the board works fine for now, except for the F3 error code I keep getting anytime I boot (although this may be due to the memory timings not being correct), I am still going to return it. As people have mentioned, you don't want to have to RMA the board later on if anything does appear!

They shouldnt give you any grief, just make the explanation simple and precise.  Be firm but not a jackass and they'll more than likely concede to your request.

A *polite but firm* customer with a legitimate complaint is always right. I would consider your issue a very legitimate reason for questioning the board, even if its just *manufacturing spooge*. Yucky spooge...

Just wanted to let it be known that sticky board was not unheard off, and in fact is somewhat common, that it's been around since before 5/2009, and that even an exchange could still be sticky. My 760 was sticky when I bought it. I'm not sure if it's rosen from the sauder flow process, or a protective surface, or esaly excited product packers, but whatever it is, it happans often.

It's hard to believe that it happens on a board costing this much, when boards less than half the value do not have the same issue. Now don't get me wrong, I love the features of the board. At the same time, a little more care should have been given to these boards.
